From July 1, the automatic matching of citizens with personal doctors will be activated through a special algorithm, as long as the Ministry of Health’s planning for the personal physician is not overthrown.

According to official data from the Ministry of Health (last update: 04/06/2025):
- 5,1408.008 citizens have been registered with a personal physician, ie 58.1% of the population.
- 41.9% (non -registered) corresponds to about 3.7 million citizens.
- There are still 3,104,146 positions available for registration with a personal doctor.
How many doctors have joined the system
Since last November, when the legislative reform of the personal doctor has been voted on, the number of doctors available has increased significantly.
Today the system has 5,263 personal doctors, of which:
- 3.864 They belong to the Public Primary Health Care System (PFY).
- 1,399 are individuals – freelancers.
This practically means that several doctors have already joined, but there are still several shortcomings in areas, especially in pediatricians, large urban centers or remote areas.
The matching of doctors – citizens and corrective movements
Speaking recently to iatropedia.gr, Deputy Minister of Health, Irene Agapidakis, clarified how the system would automatically correspond to citizens who have not been registered with a personal physician, but there would also be a possibility of change.
“We will match citizens with personal doctors. And beyond those who are automatically assigned, they will be able to change a doctor once a year or twice in the event of a district change, “he said.
She emphasized that there would be no differentiation in the rights of citizens who will automatically register compared to the citizens who will register on their own initiative:
“We will not” punish “the citizen because he did not say a personal doctor. We will let him change the doctor then if he wishes. What is true for all citizens also applies to those who will automatically register with the system, “he said.
It is also clarified how the automatic registration of citizens to the personal doctor will be made in accordance with the residences stated in each Citizen’s AMKA, while the citizen always reserves the right to choose the personal physician of his choice (pathologist, general physician) even if he is not integrated into the system.
In this case, however, he will have to pay him out of his pocket.

Official data from the Ministry of Health shows that younger ages are more reluctant to join the system.
The older ones, on the other hand, seem to understand the usefulness of the personal doctor and are more actively involved.

The registration process is simple and can be completed with one of the following options:
- Electronically, through the official website prosopikos.gov.gr, using the TAXISnet and AMKA connection details.

- By phone, contacting directly with his doctor or secretariat.
- Through five -digit telephone lines (14900, 14884, 14784), at a relative charge.
The Ministry of Health calls on citizens to immediately register with a personal doctor, stressing that participation in the system enhances the overall public health shielding and facilitates access to prevention and care services.
Role and responsibilities of a personal doctor
The personal doctor is the main point of contact with the citizen with the health system, having a decisive role in coordinating care.
