About “great announcements by the Prime Minister and government officials, with promises repeated again and again” to the Thessaloniki, the PASOK -Movement – Change Movement and the Infrastructure and Transport Managing Director of the Party.
They point out that Thessaloniki needs a real single strategic infrastructure plan, with clear priorities, sufficient funding and transparency. They add that “citizens deserve projects that will be implemented, not announcements that are passed down from year to year” and that “it is time for the city to cease to live with poor and false promises and to acquire the infrastructure it deserves”. They say that “PASOK is committed to standing next to the Thessaloniki with vision, plan, boldness and consistency, to gain the city the development and quality of life it is entitled to.”
In their announcement entitled: “Thessaloniki poor relative of funding – the truth behind the announcements“, They say specifically:
“Since 2020 the government has been presenting ‘Thessaloniki Agenda 2030’ as a purely communication tool, which cultivates the illusion that something is moving in the city. In practice, however, the projects within this agenda are simply recorded and announced without real progress. Even the timetables listed in this issue remain obsolete, since the government is not bothering or updating them.
It is at least provocative to be presented as “iconic” works that are simply recorded on the agenda and announced every year. A typical example is the Western Thessaloniki Suburban Railway, which requires only € 15m to be implemented. At the same time, “Agenda 2030” is already appearing … auctioned and with a contractor from 2023 – which of course is not the case. We heard, however, that it will be delivered in 2025. This sloppiness reveals their unreliability and the “weight” they give to Thessaloniki, when not even the update of the agenda do not bother to do. The announcements themselves are even foggy who they mean. We imagine they are not just referring to an additional train route for Sindos.
Thessintec, the “much -publicized” work of the government that was presented as the flagship of innovation, is the first on the list of the Thessaloniki Recovery Fund projects and the largest funding (33m). And yet, from their indifference and wrong choices, it has reached the point of being in danger. A project that will truly bring about technological superiority, today is overwhelming, demonstrating the frivolity with which they face Thessaloniki.
The connection of the 6th pier, a key project for the port and economy of the city, mentioned today by several executives, has been left out of timetables, a victim of state indifference and the inability to complete the basic obligations of the state. It is another indication of how rough and without respect for Thessaloniki the government faces the critical works of the city. And the most challenging is that while the project remains swam for years, government officials do not hesitate to present it as a priority, giving the impression that it is moving properly.
And as if all this was not enough, the government is talking about the “modernization” of the OASTH while the organization has been clearing in 2017. Everyone knows that a company in liquidation cannot function properly; therefore, the announcements of modernization are but empty promises. And the price of this mockery is paid daily by the citizens of Thessaloniki with suffering in their movements.
The years’ obsession with the government with the real estate at the TIF, which was first and forever denounced by PASOK’s president, resulted in the city being deprived of a valuable green lung and the ability to create an iconic metropolitan park through timely accession to the Fund. It is obviously not accidental to avoid a report by the Prime Minister in a metropolitan park. Today’s announcements, coupled with the already low funding rate of the city by the Recovery Fund, confirm that Thessaloniki is again turning into the “poor relative” of funding, with no meaningful prospects for modern conference activity and development that the city so desperately needs. “
