Charges against Harilaou Trikoupi for its operation PASOK leaves o Pavlos Geroulanos stressing that an “explosion of democracy” is needed in the party and implying that a key point in this effort can and should be the Congress.
Mr. Geroulanos who has pointed out emphatically that, if PASOK’s “needle” remains stuck in the polls until Christmas, they must discuss in detail the party’s strategy for the electionscomes back arguing in essence that the Congress should be held immediately. He has argued that a good date for the start of the Conference is March 21, however the relevant decisions have not yet been made.
“At this time a conference gives you the opportunity to make changes to the statute, to the way you operate, to how you take a position”, he said yesterday speaking to Action24 and added that “even an extremely democratic party, center-left – I don’t like the term very much – in Europe at the moment can make an explosion of democracy”. “No”, he characteristically said in response to the question whether an explosion of democracy is taking place in PASOK, that is, an attempt to improve the functioning of the party, with frequent meetings of the party bodies.
“We had a first meeting for the conference and there all the executives were positioned in a very constructive way about how things can be made better. One of the things we can do is in the function of the party”, he said at the first meeting of the Political Conference Secretariat held last week in Harilaou Trikoupi.
More frequent meetings of the bodies have also been requested by Harry Doukas and the Anna Diamantopoulouwho spoke yesterday at an event on tourism – jointly organized by the Municipality of Athens and the Network for Reform, headed by former EU Commissioner Mr. Doukas has proposed an open dialogue with the progressive forces – and with the party of Alexis Tsipras, if it happens – stating that PASOK’s autonomous course does not mean isolation and has advocated the need for a vote in the Congress with the request for a clear “no” to the possibility of post-election cooperation with New Democracy.
Mr. Geroulanos is also in favor of the dialogue with the progressive forces, while Anna Diamantopoulou disagrees with the proposal to have a vote in the Congress with the Duke’s request for “no” to the post-election cooperation with New Democracy, arguing that decisions cannot be taken without recording the electoral correlations. Regarding the organizational dimension of the preparation of the Conference, the first meeting of the Organizing Secretariat is expected today, where there will be a first discussion on the date of the top process.
Its executives PASOK however, they express their strong concerns about the “needle” in gallops and believe that in the finding of Geroulanos the reality of low opinion polls is reflected, with PASOK following the lead of New Democracy by a long distance.
A “thorn” in this plan is also considered the handling of a new party by PASOK Alexis Tsipras which also looks forward to the support of forces from the center-left and centrist space. “The next key dilemma of the election will be whether we will have a new period for the country or whether we will have one of the same. And one of the same means if we will have persons who have a path but have been judged and tested in many roles. The country doesn’t need one of the same, it needs a leap forward, a flight to the future with modern policies and of course I don’t think it benefits the country for the political dialogue to is done based on the readings of the past”, states PASOK’s press representative, Kostas Tsoukalas, about the possibility of Alexis Tsipras founding a party and adds: “I think that all this backsliding does not help the country because these are policies that have been judged and weighed…”.
In this phase, Harilaou Trikoupi is emphasizing the promotion of the party’s program and the strengthening of its relationship with the rural world. “Without the primary sector, the Greek region will “extinguish”. So, instead of supporting farmers and ranchers, the government has pushed them to their limits. Until October 31, while all European countries paid the basic aid. Our farmers did not get half a billion euros. Together with last year’s, the debts reached one billion”, says the leader of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis against the backdrop of yesterday’s agricultural rally in Athens, where he also noted that: “And that’s not enough: Production costs have increased by several factors, around 40%. They made OPEKEPE a scammer, which produces corruption. And all this is the responsibility of the Prime Minister. The ELGA regulation was not revised. The primary sector is at risk. That is why we are here today to support farmers and breeders against the corruption and incompetence of the New Democracy. That is why the country needs political change and a comprehensive plan, because the primary sector is a priority for PASOK.”
