After the talk time has passed, the speaker’s use of the microphone is automatically stopped
Starting today, the application of the so-called “time-cutter” in the meetings held in the plenary session of Parliament.
According to a relevant provision in the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament which was amended on October 30, 2025, the time of all speeches is controlled electronically and automaticallyusing the app. After the purchase period has expired, the application automatically stops the speaker from using the microphone.
At the same time, the time available to speakers increased by approximately 20%.
Regarding the implementation of the new system, the president and vice president of the Parliament, Thanasis Bouras, informed the House at the start of today’s parliamentary audit. The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security, Anna Efthymiou, welcomed the implementation of the measure, saying that “it will give more representation to the MPs, and therefore also to the citizens in the parliament”. A little later, in the context of developing his question about the compensations of livestock farmers in Ilia, to the responsible deputy minister Chr. Kella, the MP of PASOK M. Katrinis called the presidium, jokingly, “my possible excess, should not be assessed as a lack of respect, but should be checked already, if the system works. we will see it in practice”.
In fact, in his deputation, for the first time the interruption of the operation of the microphone was applied for exceeding time, shortly before Mr. Katrinis closed his last sentence.
