The Agreement between her Greece and her Turkey for cooperation in its fields Health and medical sciences, was approved by majority by its competent Social Affairs Committee Parliament.
OR New Republic was the only party that voted ultra. On the contrary, against of the agreement they stated the KKEh Greek solution and the Win. The rest of the opposition parties —PASOK, SYRIZA, New Left and Freedom Sailing— they declared reservation for their final position during the Plenary vote.
What does the agreement provide?
The agreement, which is broken down into 9 articles, creates the legal framework to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The main areas it covers are:
- Knowledge exchange and know-how.
- Creation of joint programs, scientific activities and educational seminars.
- Development of information systems.
- Better management and handling emergency situations.
To monitor the actions, a Joint Working Group.
Funding and Duration
An important article of the agreement concerns the financing. It is expressly stated that each country will cover the costs of its own representatives (travel, accommodation) and no additional expenditure beyond the existing budgets is foreseen.
The agreement will have an initial duration five years oldwith the possibility of automatic renewal. It also includes strict provisions on data protection and her confidentiality of information. With the new agreement, earlier protocols of 2005 and 2013 are abolished respectively.
The government’s position
The Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidakisstressed that this agreement can form the basis for management common threatssuch as those related to public health because of her climate crisis.
Ms. Agapidaki made it clear that Greece seeks such collaborations with all neighboring countries and categorically assured that “the country it doesn’t go away any sovereign right and its national sovereignty”.
