In the presentation of the book by Ambassador ET Alexander P. Hairentitled “Greece – Albania: Truths and Shadows”, organized by AHEPA Hellas, in the presence of ND and EPP MEP, Fredd Bellerthe Minister of Environment and Energy addressed the greeting, Stavros Papastavrou.
In his address, Mr. Papastavrou emphasized that the essential cooperation of Greece and Albania presupposes respect for the rule of law and the rights of the Greek minority, in order to ensure stability and confidence between the two countries.
“There is no ‘young’ and ‘old’ patriotism. There is a single patriotism. The true, the genuine patriotism – the one who puts above all the homeland and the common good. Anything else is but a false patriotism, another communication trick.
It is a false patriotism to defend the rights of all minorities, except those of the Greek national minority in Albania.
It is a false to blame the government when trying to develop hydrocarbon surveys, knowing that it is a matter of national sovereignty and strategic power.
It is a false patriotism to criminalize political opponents and their families, poisoning public life.
The one and true patriotism is the one who puts the homeland and the collective good above all. Over even by personal security or family serenity itself. It is the attitude that is tested in practice and not in words.
Patriotism requires and presupposes sacrifice, self -denial, dedication to principles. It is not in line with populism. It cannot be opportunistic. Patriotism unites, does not divide, does not separate, “he said.
Mr Beleris, in turn, said that “the struggle for our national rights has not stopped. It continues with unabated intensity by the European Parliament. The Greek national minority is now represented in a firm and strong voice now in the heart of Europe. And Albania must know that the European path is not an A la carte choice, but a permanent and entirely commitment. A commitment to European values and principles, democracy and of course the rule of law. In this direction, Albania still has many steps to do. “
