In ‘pantastrait’ to deal with her water scarcity Today (7.5.2025) the citizens and bodies were called by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Stavros Papastavrouspeaking at EYDAP’s workshop.
In his speech, Mr. Papastavrou pointed out that the problem of water scarcity is common among the countries, and thanked the representatives of US and Israel who were present, who contribute to the provision of know -how.
At the same time, he underlined that the problem for our country is timeless, reminiscent of similar challenges that Greece had faced in the early 1990s, when there was a great deal of awareness of the public and a strong mobilization by taking measures by the then government of Konstantinos Mitsotakis.
Continuing, the Minister of Environment and Energy captured the three main goals in dealing with water scarcity. The first concerns the improvement of the efficiency that requires, as he pointed out, “a holistic water supply and irrigation treatment, as the over 750 management bodies are, by definition, a form of ineffectiveness”, while the second is the finding and the disposal of additional funding and the reinforcement of infrastructure, from Networks, priority desalinations in brackish waters, multi -purpose dams, water tanks and more. “These are investments that cost a lot, but we have no room for delay,” he said.
Finally, the third objective, as Mr Papastavrou said, is to save water, through the awareness of society, the imprinting of needs and to take short and medium-term measures.
“Together, tuned together and strategically, we should overcome this problem so that our children, future generations, do not have to deal with it again,” the minister said, calling everyone and everyone to a pantry against water scarcity, where he himself is.
