THE Panathinaikos hit the… gas at the end and took the win 99-85 over her Maccabi Tel Aviv in OAKA for the 7th matchday of the Euroleague, returning to the positive results in Europe, after the defeat by Virtus Bologna.

Despite finding themselves losing even in the third quarter of the match, Panathinaikos played a terrific last period, with Shorts complementing the “hot” Nan and Yurtseven reaching an impressive double double. The “greens” thus closed the match with individual scores of 31-19 against Maccabi Tel Aviv and put “fire” in OAKA, for their 5th victory in 7 games in the Euroleague.

The game

Panathinaikos started the game well with Osman scoring 10 quick points and Nan being “hot”, but his defense was not correspondingly good and a run by Maccabi at the end of the first quarter, made it 25-24 in favor of the Israelis at 10′, after an improbable buzzer beater by Clark from the center of the court.

In the second quarter, the image of the match did not change, with Panathinaikos finding solutions with many players in the attack, after Shorts and Slukas scored easy baskets, but the defense “was running”. With Holmes injured again and leaving the match, Maccabi Tel Aviv “partyed” near and far from the “clover” basket, going to the locker room with a 49-47 advantage.

After the break, Maccabi increased its lead, but Kendrick Nunn got “fire” for Panathinaikos and the “greens” took the lead again with 62-60. Ataman’s team also improved their defense, with Hwantso and Mitoglou better protecting the rebounds and the Greek forward becoming a factor in the attack as well. The hosts held the Israelis to 13 points, seconds before the quarter, but their four consecutive points at the end of the period “wrote” the score 68-66 at 30′.

It was all decided in the fourth and final period. There, Panathinaikos appeared completely different, with Nan continuing to throw “fires” in the attack, Shorts giving extra energy to the team, but also giving his defense… change. Yurtseven made a double double in points and rebounds, Maccabi couldn’t find any easy points anymore and the “greens” put their world into the game, to finally reach a comfortable victory with 99-85.
