The Panathinaikos PA announcement

PA Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Alban Lafon by loan from French Nantes! The 26 -year -old French goalkeeper has signed a one -year contract and is the fourth addition to the clover roster for the new season.

Lafon was born on January 23, 1999 in Wagadougu, the capital of Burkina Faso. At the age of nine he moved to France, where he began playing football at AS Lattoise academies, initially as an aggressive midfielder and later as a goalkeeper. Soon his talent stood out. He signed to Toulouse in 2014 and the following year, on November 28, 2015 against Nis, he became the youngest goalkeeper to ever play in Ligue 1. He was just 16 years old!

He kept his team’s outbreak for eight times, which helped the most to stay in the 2015-16 season. At the age of 18 he was already counting 50 appearances in the big category of France, and his name was among the most rising goals in the world. In 38 entries, in 2016-17, he had 11 clean sheets, contributing to Toulouse’s steady course.

During the 2017-18 season, during which he had 12 Clean Sheets, the CIES ranked him in second place of the world’s most promising players, behind only Gianluigi Donaruma and in front of Kilian Bape.

Having recorded a total of 106 entries with Toulouse and with several impressive appearances in his assets, he was targeted by many clubs. In July 2018, a five -year contract was acquired by the Italian Fiorentina, which spent about eightmos. He wore the Viola jersey 38 times in the 2018-19 season, but the following summer he returned to France with a two-year borrowing on behalf of Nantes and with a seven million euro purchase clause, which was activated in May 2021, and after Lafon previously recorded two full and extremely impressive seasons.

In the following three years he was basic and irreplaceable in the canaries, fighting several times as a leader, an indication of his personality. The highlight of this remarkable march was the winning of the France in 2022 and Nantes’ positive European course in the Europa League in 2023, with Lafon playing a decisive role.

During his six -year presence in Nantes, he made 198 entries, holding his home 47 times. A total of 278 appearances in Ligue 1, having become – just at 23 – the youngest goalkeeper after 1951, reaching 200 games in the league!

Lafon has competed with all the national youth teams of France, and has also been called to the Men’s National.

We welcome Alban to the Panathinaikos family!
