An unprecedented disaster scans the country as Seven great fires rage simultaneously in different areas of Greece. Kryoneri is experiencing its worst moments with dozens of houses being destroyed by the flames started by Afidnes, while the situation remains out of control in Euboea, KytheraMessinia and Chania.
Seven active fiery fronts threaten the country
The fires that are currently burned have created an unprecedented crisis for firefighters:
• Drosopigi and Kryoneri Attica
• Pissonas in Evia
• Eagle of Messinia
• Mols of Laconia
• Kythera
• Ptolemais
• Chania Crete
Greece has requested immediate assistance from the European Civil Protection Mechanism with six aerial means expected to strengthen firefighting operations.
It is worth noting that shortly before midnight, the National Defense General Staff informed that there was no damage to the approaching fire, while the warehouses in a camp in the area of Agios Stefanos and more specifically of the 651 ABEP of the Material War House, as well as the flames.
According to the Fire Department spokesman, Pyrarch, Vassilis Vathrakogiannis, “the firefighters continue and operate continuously on all fronts of the fires” and added that at the request of Greece to the European Civil Protection Mechanism, two of the Civil Protection Mechanism is expected.
He stressed that Sunday (27/7) will be a difficult day.
Concerning Drosopigi Attica, Mr. Vathrakogiannis pointed out that the fire is without an active front and the firefighters are facing several active outbreaks. In addition, he stressed that by EKAB ambulances, 4 citizens were decorated at Agia Olga and Evangelismos Hospitals and a firefighter was decorated with burns at 401 military hospital. They are operating 220 firefighters with 8 forestry groups, 69 vehicles, a number of volunteers and volunteer groups as well as aquifers and projects of the Attica Region.
Dramatic hours in Kryoneri with disasters and unraveling
In the most critical Kryoneri area145 firefighters with 44 vehicles, five forestry groups and dozens of volunteers give a ruthless fight against flames. Police have carried out at least 27 citizens’ release after activating the 112 Emergency System for Kryoneri and Drosopigi.
The fiery front is dangerously moving towards Parnitha, but the Fire Forces are making superhuman efforts to stop it. Despite the severity of the situation, the image appears improved compared to the afternoon.
Pyromological forecasts show little improvement
According to the analysis of the Flame Pyromeological Group of the National Observatory of Athens, a slight improvement in the conditions is expected to be gradually improved at night, mainly due to weakening the intensity of the winds in the areas of Drosopigi and Kythera.
However, the high flammability of vegetation and atmospheric drought conditions will insist until late at night, facilitating the fires to maintain their destructive power.
Uncontrolled disaster in Euboea
The fire in Euboea has taken on uncontrolled dimensions as no natural obstacle succeeds in stopping it. The firefighters are fighting in multiple points, constantly moving to an exhaustive fight against flames.
The fiery front directed to the fluffy shows extremely high intensity and spreading speed. The huge fireplace has covered the whole area from Artaki to Pei and the beam.
Kythera and Chania: Evacuarms and Unleashing by sea
In Kythera, residents have moved to the Livadi and the River as the high thermal load significantly makes it significantly difficult for the ground fire forces. The extensive front of the fires is threateningly directed to the Myrtidiotissa Monastery, with the winds reaching six beaufort. A total of 138 people were released by floating means.
In Chania, many settlements have been prevented in Chania, and the situation in Messinia is equally serious where the fires continue to threaten residential areas.
Immediate mobilization of EKAB on the fronts of fires
On Saturday, the National Emergency Aid Center in the areas affected by the forest fires is attempted throughout the day, with the aim of meeting all the resulting health need. The forces of EKAB remain developed with ambulance dispersion and the possibility of immediate aid where required.
In Kythera, an EKAB ambulance is on constant operational readiness. No intercourse has been recorded so far.
In Messinia, an ambulance at the Meligala Health Center was carried out by an elderly patient with respiratory and motor problems at Kalamata General Hospital. At night, an ambulance remains available on alert, and it is possible to reinforce the neighboring areas of EKAB if needed.
In the Temenia of Crete, the ambulance of the Kandanos Health Center has been on hand, with a provision for reinforcement with additional ambulances from beautiful areas of EKAB. There have been no incidents for the moment.
In Kryoneri, Attica, four EKAB ambulances are operating. So far five people have been decorated: three in the General Hospital. Agia Olga, one in Evangelism (with mild respiratory and mobility problems) and a firefighter with burns at 401 General Military Hospital.
Finally, in the fire in Evia, three EKAB ambulances are on constant operational readiness. Two people have already been admitted to Halkida Hospital with mild respiratory symptoms.
