OPEKEPE: In prison the alleged deputy leader of the ring – Nine pretrial detentions

With the consent of the mandated European investigator and the competent mandated European prosecutor, one more defendant was sent to prison for the case of the illegal subsidies of OKAYbringing the number of provisional detainees to nine.

This is a 38-year-old man, who allegedly had the role of deputy leader in the ring. According to the indictment, he worked in declaration reception centers in Crete and, taking advantage of his position, submitted Unified Requests for Assistance (EUA) on behalf of members of the criminal organization, as well as virtual electronic agreements for the lease of agricultural plots.

In his plea, the accused denied any involvement in the acts attributed to him, arguing that he was performing his duties in accordance with legal procedures, as his work was solely about submitting statements to the system.

However, according to the indictment, the 38-year-old allegedly played an active role in moving money between members of the ring, transferring money to the bank accounts of others involved, which eventually ended up in the accounts of the alleged ringleader. He was thus allegedly acting as a manager of the illegal streams.

In the meantime, the apologies of the alleged leader of the ring and his wife are expected within the day. The father of the alleged leader, who is also accused of involvement in the case, felt unwell and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
