The celebration of Easter It has come to an end, with the faithful preparing for the second and last psychoses of the year. This year, the Sabbath will take place on Saturday, June 7 Holy Spiritwhich is celebrated this year on June 9th.
This second day of Psychosabatos is traditionally linked to the offer with “golden gypsies and is dedicated to the memory of the sleeping. It is a day of particular importance to the faithful, as prayers are offered for the souls of their loved ones who have gone away.
The All souls day This has been established to be honored as a symbolic day, 48 days after the Resurrection of Christ, in which the faithful are called upon to commemorate their loved ones who have fallen asleep in God’s peace.
The Church invites the faithful to offer memorials to the anointed, in the way they usually become: Trinity in the Cemeteries, memorials to churches and the sharing of the strokes. Psychosabats were established by the Church to offer the opportunity for those who cannot perform the established memorials to honor the souls of their loved ones in this way.
At the same time, tradition has prevailed on a more personal level, as many faithful are actively involved and want to honor the memory of their own faces, keeping their memory alive through participation in this process.
This ceremony is a special opportunity for all the faithful to pray and hope that the souls of the sleeping ones will be forgiven and judged with love and mercy in the Second Coming. The offering of the strokes, which can make themselves or get ready from an oven, is the main custom of the day.
The tangle These must be transferred to the Church to be blessed during Friday’s Vespers or on the Divine Liturgy on Saturday. Then, the blessed piles should not be thrown or scattered in the graves, but we must keep them in respect and reverence.
A special feature of the second Psychosabados is his reference as “golden gum”which attaches even more importance to this day, making it even more important to the faithful throughout the Orthodox Church. According to tradition, the Church is celebrating and commemorating all the anointed from the time of Adam to the present day, as well as all the people who have died, regardless of nationality and location. This particular psychosyan, which is celebrated nine days after the Ascension of Christ, takes place before Pentecost Sunday, and this year will take place on June 7th.
There are also many traditions and stories associated with this day and the sacrifice of the “golden columns”. According to them, on the night of the Resurrection, Christ gives the souls of the dead the opportunity to visit the earth and wander for a while before returning to heaven.
Relatives and friends of the dormant, on Saturday’s eve, that is, on Friday morning, make the pucks, who move to the church in the afternoon to be blessed by the priest, so that the souls of their loved ones can “eat” and “return” to them.
The recipe for the gypsies and the symbolism with the 9 materials
In every tradition, the waterfalls are part of our tradition, our religion, but also one of the most healthy sweets.
The materials must be 9 because 9 are the battalions of the angels, and each material has its own symbolism.
- Wheat: The dead (the earth element)
- Sugar: The sweetness of paradise
- Raisins: the vine (the Christ)
- Parsley: The rest “in the top of the grass”
- Toast grated or sesame: the soil (“..All the soil that covers it ..”)
- Pomegranate: The mercy of paradise, the brilliance
- Cinnamon: The fragrance, the fragrances (“..” in memory of a guardian of a guardian .. “,” .. They were the tomb of Myrrh Mirus .. “)
- Almonds: Eugenia, life perpetuated with offspring (instead of almonds can be used by nuts)
- Cut (silver and white): bones that remain unchanged as the body is worn.
Soak the wheat in water from slow and after strain it, clean it from the eliminating peels. Then boil it accordingly how soft we want it. In a regular saucepan a good boil lasts 2-3 hours, while in a kettle about 1 hour. When it boils, we sprinkle it with cool water saying, “Drosia and mercy have their souls …” saying the names of the dead we want to mention and spread it on a cotton towel to dry.
Mix with raisins, chopped parsley, pomegranate, cinnamon, almonds and lay it on the platter. Above the wheat we put a layer with the crushed toast or sesame and finally the layer of sugar.
With a clean paper, push the surface straight. In the end with the buns we form the shape of the cross and various designs, depending on the experience and imagination of each housewife to decorate it.
And something special, which grandmothers emphasize with great reverence:
- As we prepare the piles, the candle and incense must be on.
- The water with which we boil and rinse the wheat, we do not pour it into the sink to end up with the dirty waters in the drains. We throw it either into the sea or in the soil.
