Government sources pretend that other peak issues on the European agenda are expected to be found on the agenda of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Georgia Meloni, such as EU security and defense, Dimerian cooperation in the field of Defense, as well as EU cooperation. with third countries in security and defense. The position of Athens is that it must be based on common principles and values and serve the strategic autonomy of the EU, that is, not create new dependencies.
The same persons also point out that Greece and Italy are pillars of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider region and face due to common geographical and geopolitical reality, common challenges, from the Eastern Mediterranean to Libya and Syria, challenges to the Eastern Mediterranean and Syria. In particular, special emphasis is expected to cooperate with commerce and investment, energy and in particular the prospect of boosting Greece-Italy electricity, connectivity, as Greece and Italy can be Europe’s bridges with North Africa, as well as transport.
Finally, it is recalled that the last Supreme Cooperation Council of the two countries was held in 2017 in Corfu, while Ms Meloni had visited Athens and met with Kyriakos Mitsotakis in August 2023.
