“Heart attack” in the finale! THE Olympic did everything right against her Eindhoven for 90 minutes, but Pepi’s goal in stoppage time gave the Dutch the point in “Karaiskakis” (1-1), in the match for the 4th matchday of the League Phase of the Champions League. Terrible goal from the man of the match, Gelson Martins.
Olympiacos had victory in their hands, but the match against Eindhoven “ended” at 90+3, due to a mistake by Piraeus. Pepi’s goal “shocked” the “red and white” and deprived them of the joy of the first “three points” in the League Phase of the Champions League. Piraeus now have two points in the standings, who will host Real Madrid on the 26th of the month.
The game…
Despite the heavy rain, Olympiacos and Eindhoven “caught” a good rhythm at the start of the match, with the Piraeus seeing their wings (Potense, Gelson, Ortega and Rodinei) making individual efforts. On the other hand, the Dutch closed well the corridors towards their goal and looked for the vertical balls.
In the 12′, Eindhoven reached a goal with Saibari, which was disallowed, as the Dutch player was exposed enough. The Moroccan was a constant threat for the visitors.
Olympiacos pushed the Dutch up high, made them… difficult and he was the one who managed to put… fire in “Karaiskakis” in the 17th minute. Cicinho found Gelson Martins with a wonderful high ball and the Portuguese – with an improbable volley from the right – sent the ball into the net for 1-0.
Eindhoven balanced the match for a while and tried to be threatening, playing quickly, but Olympiakos did not “bend” and went on the attack again, with Podense and Gelson Martins again as protagonists. In the 32nd minute, the second forced Kovar to make another important intervention. the match went to the break, with the guests trying to create a chance in the frames of Tzolakis and Mouzakitis and Garthia doing important work, in midfield.
Eindhoven entered the second half looking to be dangerous, but failed to do so. Pirola led the red and white defense and the hosts did not concede a phase in their frames. However, the guests found Olympiacos more relaxed in the axis and passed some verticals, without threatening.
Olympiacos pressed high again and scored a new goal in the 62nd minute. After a series of tackles in the Dutch area, the ball found its way to Gelson Martins who took a powerful shot but saw the ball hit the crossbar and go wide. In that minute, Mediliber saw Danny Garcia go off with a problem and Nascimento being forced to be substituted, while Ciquinho also came off shortly after looking troubled, with Taremi coming on for him.
The match became more… open but also “stronger”, with Eindhoven showing a better image in the center area and being more pressing. Offensively, Olympiacos wasn’t careful with its passes, but defensively it didn’t leave gaps and showed that it doesn’t run out of strength. Mendiliber’s changes in the final (Sipioni and Costinia) gave him the necessary… energy. In fact, in the 87th minute, the leader of the match, Zelson Martins, sent the ball out, with a shot from the penalty area.
But the match had a big shock for Olympiakos in the delays and more specifically in the 90+3′. After a foul was committed in the area, the Olympiakos defense was unable to clear Kostinia and Pepi made it 1-1 with a shot from inside the area.
