“Athens cannot become a city of fear and abusive slogans”
“No answer to Athens,” the Minister of Tourism said in a statement today, Olga Kefalogiannis, in which he criticizes the mayor of Athens, Harry Dukefor the latter’s response to her letter to graffiti against Israelis.
As Mrs Kefalogiannis notes:
“The response to the social media of the Mayor of Athens, Mr. Haris Doukas, is a unpleasant surprise. Not only for the unprecedented anti -disgusting tone and the inappropriate way, but mainly because it dares to answer the essence of the issue. Our letter concerned a serious subject, affecting the image of the capital. And it closed with two clear positions: the need for cooperation and the common goal of a safe, democratic and hospitable Athens. Unfortunately, Mr. Doukas refused both. Because it just seems to be neither the problem nor its solution.
On the contrary, he is suffering from constant conflicts, away from his duties. Instead of taking responsibility for him, he decided to cheap propaganda, which is incompatible with the seriousness of his institutional role.
I want to be absolutely clear. Athens cannot become a city of fear and abusive slogans. It should not be identified with racism, anti -Semitism and intolerance.
It must be and remain an open, safe and democratic city that respects its visitors and values of our country.
Let us all take over our responsibilities. “
