Nova, a member of the United Group, the top telecommunications provider and the media in southeastern Europe, gave the present with CEO of Mrs George Lambrou at the 10th Delphi Economic Forum, with the influential leadership panel entitled “The financial impact of natural disasters and the role of technology in prevention», Which took place yesterday, April 10th.
The discussion focused on how technology, innovation and preventive measures for civil protection are decisive for the creation of durable communities and the protection of both the environment and the Greek economy, while also analyzing and analyzed. The multilevel influence of climate crisis in our country to date.
Mrs Evi Dramaliotis, Secretary General of Coordination of the Presidency of the Government, Dr. Fai Makantasis, Director of Research by DINEOS, Professor Manolis Plionis, Director & Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA), and Mr. Leonidas Papaioannou, Partner, Government and Public Sector Services George Eugenides.
The distinguished speakers made Important analysis of the complex and multidimensional nature of natural disaster management, stressing that effective response and long -term durability require more than environmental rehabilitation interventions.
The discussion focused on social impact on local communities, pressure on urban infrastructure, how vulnerable the primary production sector is and macroeconomic consequences for GDP and competitiveness of Greece. The panel has highlighted the need for a comprehensive strategy that will combine scientific data, technology, policies and public and private cooperation, with the aim of creating a Sustainable and Durable Civil Protection Model.
During the discussion, Mr. George Lambrou, CEO of Nova, emphasized the urgent need for Greece to turn to from restoring to prevention on natural disasters. He presented Nova’s recent initiatives in the field of Civil Protection, including Smart Forest, a high -tech system which enhances business readiness, offers real -time surveillance opportunities and supports the long -term protection of the environment and local communities.
Finally, he announced the start of a New Initiative by Nova, in collaboration with the Greek scientific community, in the form of primary macroeconomic researchfor the evaluation of the multiple consequences of climate change and natural disasters in Greek GDP and for the benefits of prevention over rehabilitation.
“The devastating fires of recent years have shown us that, however necessary the restoration is, it is not enough. Prevention is the only viable model. In Nova we take advantage of our technological know -how to develop solutions such as Smart Forest, enhancing business readiness, while protecting the environment, society and the economy. Today, we are launching a new dialogue and a research initiative, in collaboration with the Greek scientific community, to assist in shaping a more durable and sustainable civil protection model for the future, “said CEO of Nova.

Evi Dramaliotis, Secretary General of the Coordination of the Presidency of the Government, noted: “Our country has faced multiple crises in recent years. By focusing prevention, we have implemented our planning for a state resistant to the most extreme manifestations of climate crisis. In order to reduce the dangers of natural disasters, we intensify the required actions, such as boosting infrastructure, cleaning of land and forests, creating firefighting zones in collaboration with forestry services and, in particular, investing in the new opportunities of early diagnosis of technology. “
Dr. Faye Makantasis, Director of Research in DINTES, stressed in her post: “The heatwave days in Greece will increase by 15-20 days per year, rainfall will decrease from 10% to 30%, while high-risk fire days will increase from 15% to 70%. Finally, it is possible to increase sea levels from 50 cm to 2 meters to the end of the century. By the end of the century it is cumulatively estimated that the cost of non -climate adjustment to climate change in the country will reach 701 billion euros (in 2008 values), while with actions valued at € 67 billion we can prevent financial losses of almost three times. Consequently, prevention, that is, the effort to adapt and prepare climate change, will have a much less cost than one of the afterwards attempt to repair the natural damage caused by climate change and it was possible to avoid. “
Professor Manolis Plionis, Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Observatory of Athens, underlined: “Unfortunately, the worst forecasts for the intensity of climate change and its consequences are confirmed daily, while in our region the rate of temperature rise is twice the world average. Science can and should contribute to the effort to develop national policies, developing systems and tools with the aim of effectively preventing and mitigating the impact of climate change on society, economy and the environment, as well as to design a strategy in dealing with natural and anthropogenic disasters. “
Leonidas Papaioannou, Partner, Government and Public Sector Services, PWC Greece, said: “Resilience is a strategic prerequisite for dealing with the challenges of the future effectively. It is not just a target, but a necessary condition that requires the combined action of prevention, infrastructure and technology investment, as well as close public and private cooperation. In a world where crises-environmental, social or economic-are more frequent and more intense, strategic investment in durability not only makes it possible to deal timely and effectively but converts prevention into a source of multiplier value. ”
Nova’s involvement reaffirms her commitment to It utilizes technology in the service of viability, durability and long -term value for the country. Pentelis, while developing the Civil Protection Project with a cutting -edge technology “Smart Forest of Rhodes” which will offer the island to protect the “Butterflies” area.
