Nikos Pappas for ATM: “Mr. Pierrakakis does not reset the supplies, leaves the vulnerable in the hands of Cashflex type companies”

Nikos Pappas, a parliamentary spokesman and MP of the B3 of the Syriza South South Division of the SYRIZA-Provenant Alliance, made a statement criticizing Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Pierrakakis on supplies. He argues that Mr Pierrakakis’ announcements about zero supplies do not correspond to reality and that the government leaves the most vulnerable citizens exposed to high charges.

According to Nikos Pappas, Mr Pierrakakis announced the zero commission for bank ATM withdrawals, which, as he points out, is already in force. In addition, it referred to zero supply through the DIAS system. However, Mr Pappas predicts that the DIAS system will shrink as banks are expected to follow the example of Piraeus Bank, withdrawing their ATMs outside their shops. This means that while DIAS will have zero charges, it will be accessible from much less ATMs.

Mr Pappas focuses his criticism of the fact that the New Democracy government maintains the supply of 1.5 euros for the withdrawals from the ATMs of third -party providers (like Cashflex type companies). He argues that in the near future, these ATMs will be the only ones available outside the banking stores.

Consequently, instead of the zero charge or the previous $ 0.75 billing through DIAS, citizens will be forced to pay 1.5 euros. SYRIZA MP stresses that the small depositors, vulnerable and older living in remote areas will have essentially only this choicethat is, the charge of 1.5 euros per transaction.

Zero charge everywhere for vulnerable

Contrarying his own proposal, Nikos Pappas describes it as “bold and meaningful”. Suggests zero charge for small depositors and vulnerable citizens, everywhere. This means zero supply to of each ATM, either a bank or a third party provider (like Cashflex), for each transaction.

(It is noted that, according to Bank of Greece data, small depositors make up more than 70% of all depositors, making SYRIZA’s proposal particularly important for a large part of the population).
