“Our governments have their own conversations and meetings but today we are launching a new era in parliamentary diplomacy that can further help relaxing relationships between the two peoples.”
This was stated by the Speaker of the House, Nikitas Kaklamaniswelcoming to the Greek Parliament an eight -member delegation of the United States Congress.
As the Speaker of Parliament, Addressing members of the American Congress, “you are the representatives of the House of House of a great friend, a country with which Greece has very close friendly ties, which we want to make even closer to them, and today’s acquaintance with you is the beginning of a personal friendship between the Greek Parliament.”
At the same time, he informed the US delegation that, during his meeting with the US Embassy in Athens, Maria Olson, he appealed to the president of the US Congress to visit Greece for the first time in history, asking for his assistance and his assistance.
“We are here eight members of Congress that we came to meet a strategic partner. It is very important for us to come here and build the relationship between Greece and the US and the partnership, to raise it to the next level. There were many places we could go. But we have chosen to come here and are committed to this purpose, “Mr Boukanan replied.
Immediately after the speech, Dina Taitus, who is of Greek descent, was given, as her mother is a Greek woman, expressing her special emotion.
“The relationship of Greece and the United States is very important to us as you are our most important partner on the east side of NATO. You are in a strategic position, playing an important role in this side of the world, and we rely on you to play this role, “he said.
She also expressed her belief that “we can reinforce the relationship between the two sides and that is what we want to do”, stressing the importance of communication with the Greek community in America in order to “discuss policies that are of interest to both sides.”
The delegation consisted of Verne Boukanan, head, Dina Tait, Lloyd Doget, Ted Liu, Neil Dan, Ilhan Omar, Anna Polina Luna and Andy Owgles.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Hellenic Friendship Committee and Chairman of the Greek Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and Defense, Dora Bakoyannis, the First Vice President of the House, Ioannis Plakiotakis and the Secretary General of the House.
The Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament offered to the head of the Congress delegation a collection of engravings depicting the Greek parliament and are copies of works of art of the House, while Mr Boukanan offered Mr Kaklamanis a Presis.
