Eric Adams was rescued by polls by Mamdani and Cuomo, who descends as an independent, with Mamdani recording a significant lead in polls ahead of the November 4 elections.
“Despite everything we have achieved, I can’t continue my re -election campaign,” Adams said in a post on X.

New York Democratic Governor Katie Hokul has publicly expressed her support to Mamdani in the New York elections. The 33 -year -old candidate, a self -proclaimed “socialist”, appears as a favorite to win.
Cuomo’s allies have long been pushing Adams to retire to enhance the chances of Quomo against Mamdani in November reports CNN. Donald Trump has also proposed to reduce the number of candidates, while his close associate, Steve Whitkov, met with Adams for a possible position in Trump administration.
Adams, who appears fourth in most polls, is not clear how many votes will lead to Cuomo if he retires. Trump’s intervention has helped Mamdani, as the former president remains unpopular in the deep democratic New York. Trump also asked Sligua, a Republican candidate, to leave, something he rejects.
The Camo Campaign hopes that Adams’ departure will release part of the black vote. However, more and more democrats at state and national level are rallying around Mamdani, with the support of Governor Katie Hokul and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
