The school year 2025-2026 begins with a fresh breath for the Greek educationbringing new themes, innovative lessons and meaningful reforms extending from kindergarten to high school. At the center are self -awareness, economic education, physical security, literacy and viability education.
Economic Education in 1st High School – Lesson for Updated Citizens
For the first time the course of the first grade is introduced Economicin the context of dealing with economic illiteracy. Students will be taught concepts such as GDP, inflation, savings and taxation, while having simple financial tools through theoretical and experiential approach to skill laboratories.
The Ministry of Education is considering the use of Cypriot manual until Greek material is produced, and teaching is expected to be assigned to financial. Economic education ceases to be a privilege of the few and becomes part of self -knowledge and social responsibility.
Swimming in elementary school – a lesson that saves lives
OR swimming returns reinforced and compulsory For the 3rd and 4th grades of elementary school, now incorporating elements lifeguard, first aid and safety in water. Objective, prevention and protection – in a country that every year mourns more than 350 drowning.
The course will be accompanied by Free Transfer of Students in swimming pools and collaboration with specialized staff. It is part of a broader National Civil Protection Strategy.
‘Vegetables in Schools’ – Education for Sustainability from the Court
Another innovation is the program “Vegetables in schools”that brings the children of kindergarten and elementary school in contact with nature, the bio -cultivation, cooperation and ecological consciousness.
Students will learn to plant, compost and observe good insects and natural plant protection methods. The Ministry of Education is equipping the schools with greenhouses, flower beds and toolsturning the yard into workshop.
Literature in Elementary – Literature returns with full works
OR Literature acquires a special place in the weekly program of elementary school, with entire works – And not just excerpts. Students will read and listen to books via the platform evivlioparticipating in activities that connect the text to their lives.
The approach is experiential and interdisciplinarywith the teacher acting as an animator. Classic works such as “Alexander the Great” by Kazantzakisthey gain a new role in shaping imagination and linguistic empowerment.
Ethics from Elementary to 3rd High School – a new, neutral -religious lesson
After the CoE decisions, a new ethics comes to replace religiously for those who are exempt. With neutrally religious characterthe course focuses on social responsibility, moral thought, multiculturalismbut also on critical issues such as artificial intelligence and human rights.
The content is designed by the IEP in collaboration with the EKPA and It will be taught from the 3rd grade to the 3rd High School.
New Vocational Guidance Framework – Personalized Counseling in the First High School
From the new year, the orientation of the students of the First High School is essentially strengthened. EOPPEP undertakes the implementation of the measure through Digital Application to Gov.grwhere it is foreseen:

The process will be implemented every school year from September to November, and concerns students of all types of high school (GEL, EPAL, ENEGYL).
The personal data protected in accordance with the GDP (GDPR)while it is foreseen to create Vocational Guidance Registry (MEP) with certified counseling service providers.
