New Left: People make History when they defend their dignity

Our debt today, at a time when we are “reimmersing ourselves in the logic of war and the arms race”is to say “No” to any form of fascism, notes the New Left in its message for the national anniversary.

The entire New Left message:

“October 28 is not a typical anniversary. It is a reminder that people write History when they defend their dignity, their freedom, their homeland against fascism, authoritarianism and subjugation. It is a day of remembrance and responsibility – to the generations that resisted, but also to the new generations living again in a world of war, inequality and democratic decline.

Greece in the 1940s said “No” to fascism. Today, it is our duty to say “No” in all its forms, to far-right rhetoric, to authoritarianism, to racist violence, to the devaluing of human life.

The New Left honors those who resisted the Occupation, the fighters of the EAM Resistance, those who paid with their lives for a Greece, for a Europe, for a free and just world.

Today, as we plunge back into the logic of war and the arms race, the meaning of October 28 remains:

to resist fear and oblivion,

to defend the peace,

to fight for a society of justice, equality and freedom”
