Mrs. Kanelli described her accuser as an “anti-communist” while asserting that she is taking advantage of her legal status for petty political gains. At the same time, he insisted that Mrs. Konstantopoulou, as Speaker of the Parliament in 2015, “turned her back” on Ilias Kasidiaris and the others its imprisoned members of parliament Golden Dawn in order to get permission from Korydallos prisons and participate in the work of the parliament.

The confrontation ended with a new intervention by the KKE member of parliament: “vulgarity when it is launched by a vulgar speaker falls into the void as a charge. When Konstantopoulou spews this obscenity after Kasidiaris, I consider it a 2nd award. Pro bono I undertake to defend her against herself. In 1967 I went to the first high school. Earlier, the president of Plefsis Eleftheria also referred to the lawsuit filed against her by the former candidate with her party, Olga Dalla. The plaintiff claims that with anti-institutional and anti-democratic practice, Konstantopoulou removed her from the electoral lists of the June 2023 elections, although in the first contest in May she came first in “crosses” in the South sector of Athens.
Mrs. Konstantopoulou defended the decision to “disguise” her candidate from the ballots arguing that “Changes to the ballots are the right and responsibility of the head. All parties have done it in the past.” At the same time, he hinted that the attacks launched by Ms. Dalla against her are financially motivated.
“This person along with others who backed out were used by the media and my political opponents to run the biggest smear campaign. There has been no other party that has been subjected to such a smear campaign with the tool of this lady who obviously secured the resources to deal exclusively with this,” he said. .
“The accusation is false” he insisted to say at another point “Those who will put me in a difficult position have not yet been born”. Ms. Konstantopoulou, however, called on the national delegation to vote in favor of lifting her parliamentary immunity as she believes that parliamentarians should not have special privileges as a matter of principle.
The request to lift Kanelli’s immunity was voted down
Late on Wednesday afternoon, the Plenary of the Parliament approved with a wide majority the judicial request to lift the parliamentary immunity of Zoi Konstantopoulou. 238 MPs voted in favor of the request while 48 voted against.
The president of Plefsis Eleftherias was sued by the former candidate with the party, Olga Dalla, who, although she had emerged first among “crosses” in the elections of May 2023, in the repeat elections that followed in June of the same year, she was removed from the lists in favor of the actor Spyros Bibilas.
It should be noted that Mrs. Konstantopoulou’s case was introduced to the Plenary with a negative recommendation from the competent parliamentary Ethics Committee. She, however, asked the MPs to vote in favor of the request, as she said she disagrees with the maintenance of parliamentary privileges
On the contrary, the request to lift Ms. Liana Kanelli’s immunity was voted down with 209 “against”, 25 “for” and 50 present.
