New facts about the Parliament policeman: The dark character, the appointment to the parliament and the beatings

There is no end to the shocking revelations about his case policemanwho allegedly physically and sexually abused his wife and their minor children. A complaint of beating dating back to 2003 “came to light”, while it is shocking that the 45-year-old managed to work in Parliament.

One after the other, the revelations about the police officer of the Parliament are “exploding”. Today (13.12.2024) his 35-year-old wife underwent a psychiatric evaluation before an expert, and a technical consultant both on her side and on the side of the 45-year-old. At the same time, the Live News program presented from Mega’s archive the case of the beating of a citizen by the 45-year-old dating back to 2003. The victim spoke about the incident, for which he was seeking justice 21 years ago.

The psychiatric evaluation

The 35-year-old police officer appeared accompanied by a lawyer, however, there was an objection from the 45-year-old’s technical advisor and the lawyer left. Her examination lasted 2.5 hours, with the 35-year-old being cooperative and speaking calmly and soberly.

There was a discussion around the case of abuse and the questions were about the whole relationship of the family from when it started until now. For the results, three reports will be drawn up, an expert report of the appointee and two technical reports, one from each consultant within the next twenty days.

“The policeman’s claims were dismissed”

The lawyer of the 35-year-old woman, Yiannis Barkagiannis, clarified in his statements that after the end of the specific examination all the claims of the 45-year-old are refuted her husband, that she herself was mentally disturbed and that she put the things she complained about out of her mind.

“Today during the examination, carried out by the expert appointed by the investigating officer, representing our technical advisor, we were informed that it is expected within a week, that the opinion of the expert will be drawn up, based on the findings and the conclusion drawn from today’s examination. After this, our technical advisor will be appointed.

At this moment it is too early to make any statement regarding the results, however every claim of the perpetrator and the police officer in custody is definitely refuted, that everything that our principal has complained about is in the realm of her imagination. “Any further comment on the expected findings of today’s examination is impossible from either side, as it is a brutal violation of medical confidentiality,” the statement concluded.

After an investigation, it emerged that the 35-year-old took medication for the first time in the last year, specifically in February 2024, while there is no earlier record. The treatment he received is compatible with anxiety, insomnia and mood disorders. There is no mental illness or reduction of the unaccountable, as the police officer claims. It is also not necessary to interrupt the treatment due to pregnancy, while if there is an interruption – which the police officer claimed before the assessment – and relapse with psychotic symptoms is not warranted.

“Because of our acquaintance, I proposed his employment in the Parliament”

The fact that the accused not only remained in the House, after a heavy criminal record and repeated complaints about beatings that began in 2002, caused an impression, but was appointed “as if by magic” to the Parliament as well. The Guardian of the Parliament of 2019 spoke exclusively on Live News, who is also the man who appointed the police in Parliament.

As the former Guardsman mentioned, he was the one who recommended the hiring of the 45-year-old, but he pointed out that the ELAS headquarters is the one that approves or disapproves of his hiring, as it has knowledge of the service record of the detained police officer.

“I had met this particular police officer from police services in Piraeus. Because of our acquaintance, I suggested his recruitment to the Parliament and given that he was having many children. However, the final approval and examination of his service file was done and held by the headquarters of ELAS.

I could not bring him to Parliament by myself. During the three months he was in the Parliament, with me as guard, there was no problem with his behavior. I remember that he remained in the parliament guard for another five years after I left the post of guard in the summer of 2015. All that he is accused of doing to members of his family is regardless with his presence in Parliament and the Greek Police”, he said characteristically.

The 2003 beating and the victim’s black eye

This is a shocking case that happened in the summer of 2003. The then 24 years old police officer of the Parliament, had brutally beaten a man in front of his wife and their minor child. The reason for the fight was one maneuver on a street in Athens. After a lot of searching, they found in Mega’s file documents from the complaint made 21 years ago by the victim, looking for justice.

The victim of the attack had described what he experienced because of the now 45-year-old policeman: “A man almost beast he trapped me between the sky of a car and a door and started hitting me mercilessly”, the victim of the Mega attack had described at the time. The then 24-year-old police officer got off the motorcycle he was driving and attacked the unfortunate man who did not manage to escape.

The victim had gone for a walk with his wife and their 10-year-old daughter. As it turned out, not even the presence of the minor child was enough for the policeman to back off. He was taken to a hospital and the doctors, after giving him first aid, treated him stitches in the head. “When he had thrown me down and was hitting me, he was saying”you know who i am”, the man had said on camera.

Present in the episode, she was also then fellow of the policeman, who failed to restrain him. This beating, however, was, as a person from her environment tells Live News, the “last straw” for her patience.

Today, the then victim of the beating spoke on the Live News show, reliving the incident and explaining how the violent attack by the Parliament police officer unfolded, saying: “I saw in front of me what had once troubled me. Everything that was happening was happening in his mind. I mean in his mind he thought I shut him down and created all this fuss he made… I fought, I was running wild and being struck by these, because I did not want to let this man go, I saw what he was and I did not want to leave him unpunished.

As soon as I got out of the car, why? I was scared that he would trap me inside, in a traffic light, he was also inside and the child at one point wanted to get out, as soon as I got out he threw such a stick at me, I didn’t even dare… he didn’t say anything, straight away the wood startedno words were spoken and I didn’t even touch him. I went to jail for hitting him and I didn’t even touch him.

Punches to the heada very professional blow, he was…, he hit from above because he was also tall, from above punches to the head downwards. I had problems with my jaw and vision, I think the presbyopia that met the astigmatism came a little faster and I think that was the cause. What was happening because he was a police officer, a special guard after all and I saw that he had a lot of that, I was afraid that I would not be right and I fought to be right by presenting it.”

The 45-year-old was convicted and continued to serve in the police

The accused policeman today was then sentenced to 6 months suspended prison sentence and remained free and continued to serve in the police force. Over the years, they did three complaints against the police officer by his colleagues, but without ever being outside the Corps. In the period 2007-2008, the policeman was diagnosed with psychological problems. It was decided to take away his gun license for a time, the whole matter being forgotten, like all the previous ones.

“He was a special guard. He was messing with the special guards. Five people, five policemen could not do him good,” commented a former colleague of the 45-year-old policeman.

The frightening similarities with the parents who raped their children in Patras

In 2013, the entire country was shocked by the case rape of 4 minors by their parents in Patra. The incidents of violence and the testimonies are shockingly similar to the details of the Parliament police case that came to light 11 years later.

Parents who sexually abused their children, children who succumbed to their sick appetites, with the mother participating in both cases. As the 35-year-old wife of the policeman admitted: “He was forcing me with the use of physical violence and with threats to act initially against our son when he was 6 years old. I, out of fear and with the wood he gave me, was forced to obey him and do it. While I did these things to our son, he sat and watched.”

“It happened to the girls very often and many times. About 3-4 times a week. Since he was not even five years old. It started for me at a young age. I remember this being done since I was in first and second grade. My mom knew about what father did to us. And my brother didn’t want to, but my father forced him,” she says 13 years old daughter of the couple.

The sick case of Patras has returned to the public, with the victims having now reached adulthood without contact with their parents. The pair, who were convicted in 2013, remained in prison for 8 years and now circulates freely in society.

Journalist: How often did it happen?

28-year-old victim of abuse: Certainly during the holidays when we didn’t have schools, Christmas, Easter, summers, I don’t even remember at what age, that is, I was so young. I don’t like Christmas. I’ve got it in my head in a bad way.

Journalist: Where was mom when this was happening?

28-year-old victim of abuse: Most of the time in front. My mother was also in the same room, my mother also participated normally, she knew everything. Everything.

In both cases, the children held their mother jointly responsible for the harm that was happening and insisted that she do something. The 28-year-old abuse victim of Achaia’s horrific story said: “My mother he was eating wood from my father too much, me and my sister used to catch her and say to her “why don’t you divorce him?”. And he would tell me “no” and “wait until you grow up a little more, so we can all work together to get by”.

The eldest son of the police officer of the Parliament had said the same words to the 35-year-old, accusing her of wanting to leave the children without a father: “Get a divorce. He gave you a chance. You want to leave us fatherless and put him in jail. Let’s break up.”

The abuse of children in both cases is unthinkable, but no indisputable forensic findings were found, except for the policeman’s 12-year-old daughter.
