New EU budget: In ‘reserve’ 25% of Community funds for an emergency time

For a time of … need -and above all to deal with extremes will be held 1 in 4 euros of budget of the European Union (EU) for the period 2028 – 2034, according to sources from Brussels.

It is recalled that yesterday (17.7.2025) the Commission presented the new EU budget for the next programming period totaling 2 trillion. euro.

According to the report, 25% (compared to 10% of the National and Regional Co -operative Plans (€ 9 billion), by the Global Europe Fund (15 billion euros), while an additional 22 billion euros will be held at the “edge”.

At the same time, in the “crisis mechanism”, that is, the mechanism of dealing with extreme climate phenomena and water scarcity, there will be a loan tank of 395 billion euros. In addition, each year will be saved 2 billion euros in the context of the budget flexibility, that is, its ability to pay extraordinary costs.

However, the same sources have made it clear that “there is no definition of the concept of crisis” -to deal with reserve funds close to € 455 million (out of a total of 2 trillion euros available for 2028 -2034!) And that this concept will be determined, though when needed by the EU authorities.

However, newsit.gr reports that the greatest fear in Brussels, which is behind the shaping of the above “pillow” – mammoth (that is, a piggy bank for a time of emergency) seems to be the climate crisis, which could cause Daniel damage, but a sharp problem of water scarcity in the European south.

Consequently The main purpose of the Commission -beyond the strengthening of European military defense- It is the “adaptability” to the phenomena of natural disaster.
