Subsequently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to bring back all the hostages, “the living and the dead”, without mentioning the US proposal for a truce in Gaza, for which Hamas spoke earlier.
“If we do not do it today, we will do it tomorrow and if not tomorrow, then tomorrow, we do not abandon. We have the intention of bringing them all behind, the living and the dead,” Netanyahu said in his speech, closing the celebrations for “Jerusalem Day”.
“Our mission (to win the war) including the mission to return the hostages, accompanies us every day and every night, and this night, we don’t give up,” Netanyahu added.
‘Picks up’ his office
However, the office of the Israeli prime minister, in a statement sent earlier in the name of a “senior official”, attempts to undo Netanyahu’s statements.
The “official” claims that this should not be regarded as an indication of an impending agreement.
“The prime minister meant that we would not abandon the liberation of our hostages and, if we do not do so, we hope that in the coming days we will succeed,” the statement said, adding that, for the time being, “Hamas continues to insist on its refusal.”
