His prime minister Nepal KP Sarma Olli announced his resignation today (09.09.2025), the following day protests against the blockage of social media and corruption violently by police and caused the deaths of 19 people in the country.
“I submitted my resignation today from my duties as Prime Minister (…) so that measures could be taken for a political solution and solving the problems,” said 73 -year -old Olli in a letter he addressed to the president and was broadcast by the press.
Yesterday Monday night, after one day of violent demonstrationsthe head of the government ordered the restoration of social media and the launch of a “independent” investigation into the circumstances under which police opened fire against the crowd.


But the rage of the population has not been restored.
Despite the traffic ban imposed in the center of the capital Kathmandu in the morning, protesters gathered today in many places to report the repression of the previous day.

According to the Guardian, thousands of protesters today invaded the country’s parliament and set fire to one of the buildings. The army was deployed in parallel to the police, while the country’s politicians were transferred to secure locations, as the wrath against the government was overflowing on the streets. Kathmandu Airport was closed due to dense smoke.
‘About 20 people have been murdered by the state’, The 23 -year -old student Yujan Ratzbandari complained to yesterday’s demonstration. “The government should take responsibility for all these lives lost,” he added.

Expressing “deeply regret” about the “tragic incident” as he described it, Olli announced earlier today’s conversations with the parties in order to end an end to violence.
His three ministers have already resigned, including the Minister of the Interior, according to local media.
From this morning, the majority of social media is working properly.
