The country’s forensic services enter the country of digital transformation, with the help of an innovative information system that incorporates artificial intelligence technologies (AI), voice recognition and automatic data processing.
The innovation, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025, will radically change the way the necropsies and necrotomies take place. Forensic doctors will use vocal support tablets to record the findings on the spot, while the system will automatically compose a first forensic report based on data, images and analyzes.
“The forensic service is 100 years old. It was the time to acquire a modern, digital tool – a “assistant” who would limit any mistakes in the investigation process, “says Nikolaos Karakoukis, general manager of the Ministry of Justice’s forensic examination.

The new system, according to the project manager and professor of the Department of Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus, Elias Maglogiannis, “will follow step by step the whole process – from order to final finding”. It will support the recording of all data and findings – histochemical examinations, toxicological and biopsies – and with the utilization of artificial intelligence will process information to form a first forensic report plan by the forensic examiner.
The function of the system is based on image and voice recognition: During the examination, the coroner will verbally describe the findings, while the tablet will analyze and record the observations. At the same time, AI will identify similar recorded cases, make automatic measurements and propose scientifically documented directions.
“In no case does it replace the forensic doctor – it is a tool that saves time and reduces the chance of error, offering an almost ready -made exposure standard that the expert adapts,” Elias Maglogiannis points out.
Greece is thus becoming the first country in the world to make such a digitization in the field of forensic, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the University of Piraeus. An innovation that is expected to upgrade the validity and speed of forensic examinations, while enhancing transparency and judicial reliability.
