After making measurements such as those in their beaks, they proceeded to reinforce them in their nests.
Last Thursday, June 19th and June 20th, rings were held at the Lefkoplagos chicks in Kalloni and Kalloni’s ducks. A total of five chicks were rings. It should be noted that there are seven nests of white bays around the Gulf of Kallonis. There are also blacksmiths, which is very rare for the Mediterranean island where the coexistence of white and black storks is very rare.
“The fingerprint of the chicks, says environmentalist Eleni Galinou, is done at a certain age and before the end of summer when the bird’s migration journey to South Africa will begin. So that they are developed but not enough to scare and abandon the nest when experts approach it. With a special crane, the rings rise to the level of the nest and carry them carefully and safely to the ground. There are a special plastic ring and specific measurements are taken (weight, beak length etc.). “
The rings placed on the leukoplags in our country are black in white (unique for every ring). The goal is to identify and re -read when the bird is found elsewhere, having successfully abandoned its nest to draw useful conclusions about its biology and ecology.
