The citizens of the Bavarian capital decided it in a referendum Munich to move for the organization of the summers Olympic Games of 2036, 2040 or 2044.
The mayor of Munich claimed that 63% of those who voted were in favor of bidding for the Olympic Games, but the final decision will be made by the German Olympic Association on which city in the country will be nominated to the International Olympic Committee.
Berlin, Hamburg and the Rhine-Ruhr region have also expressed interest, with Cologne the most likely home. The decision by the German Confederation will be made by September 2026.
India is one of the countries that have also expressed interest in hosting one of the future Olympics, as have Qatar and Doha.
