Mount Athos: The monk who had been missing since the end of November was found dead

The authorities’ search for a 40-year-old man came to a tragic end monk at Agios Oroswho had been missing since November 29.

The monk was found on Thursday (12.12.2024) dead on a rocky shore in the sea area “Monoxyliti” on Mount Athos.

Police officers from the Mount Athos department together with forces from the Kary fire department, transported the man’s body to a point accessible from the sea so that it could be taken to land by a private boat.

The body of the monk is to be transferred to the Forensic and Toxicology Laboratory of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for a necropsy.

The preliminary investigation is carried out by the Mount Athos Port Authority.
