The Prime Minister interviewed the French on -call Les échos
Greece’s comparative advantages in the fields of technology and innovation as well as the progress made in recent years regarding the country’s digital modernization is mentioned by the prime minister. Kyriakos Mitsotakis In an interview published today in the French financial newspaper Les échos.
In the introductory note to the interview, the French newspaper emphasizes that since its first election in 2019, the Greek prime minister is working intensively to accelerate the country’s digital transformation, noting that they have, inter alia, a large number of public services have been digitized. He also notes that Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not rule out the possibility of Greece the next “start-up nation” and wants these areas to contribute, in the long run, up to 10% of Greek GDP.
More specifically, answering the question of where the Greek start -up ecosystem is located, the Prime Minister states:
“The development of the start-ups has been impressive in recent years. We have a plethora of talents, public universities in the country continue to train excellent engineers and at the same time, we are re -attracting talents who had gone abroad. Today, we have more returns than departures. We therefore strive to differentiate the Greek economy beyond tourism, and I hope that the technology and technologies of IT and Communications (ICT) in general will play a more important role.
In addition to start -ups, we have managed to attract significant investments in data centers. All major market players are already present. We have a plethora of renewable energy sources, which facilitates the provision of more economical energy to these data centers. A significant part of the European Recovery Fund is heading to technology, and large telecommunications providers have pledged to double their investment in Greece as they recognize the country’s strong potential. I also believe that – in the new geography of the data centers and in terms of data connectivity – Greece must utilize its geographical location. “
According to RES EIA, then asked if the digital transformation is a reality in Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis says:
“The digital transformation has been fully adopted. Our first decision after our election, six years ago, was the establishment of the Ministry of Digital Governance. Since then we have digitized many public services and continue to add new ones. The Gov.gr digital platform made more than 1.4 billion digital transactions in 2023 and this number is constantly increasing. I remember that in 2013-2014, when I was Minister of Administrative Reform and E-Government, I realized that everyone was working isolated, so it was impossible to ensure interoperability for all data. So we started this project and got a great deal of development. Today, gov.gr is the second most popular platform in Greece, taking into account private. “
Finally, a questioning role that Greece could play in the field of artificial intelligence, the prime minister says:
“I believe that we have a role to play in Europe in shaping the new landscape of artificial intelligence. This technology offers us an opportunity to precede: We are a medium -sized country, which facilitates us in centralized project management. The Government understands and is committed to technology. In any case, we want to be a leading force in terms of innovation in artificial intelligence in public administration and I am particularly interested in the development of applications that will simplify the functioning of public services.
We already have very interesting projects that have achieved great success. For example, we have a Land Registry system supported by artificial intelligence and just yesterday [σ.σ. 3 Ιουνίου] We announced a new project: personal number. Previously, there were four different numbers: Social Security Registration Number (AMKA), Tax Identification Number (VAT) and Identity Card Number (ID). Our goal is to simplify this whole system. “
