Mitsotakis: We have reduced unemployment from 18% to 8%, created 500,000 new jobs – Returning to our country more than leaving

In the event of his Ministry of Laborentitled “Building Bridges between Human Resources and the Labor Market,” the prime minister spoke tonight Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The event took place at the Hellenic World Cultural Center, in the presence of a large number of members of the cabinet.

“500,000 new jobs have been created in recent years,” the prime minister underlined, stressing that unemployment in our country is now at 8%, having declined by about ten points from 2019 and ND’s first election victory. At the same time, he said, this was also raised by wages, justifying the policy of the ruling party.

Mr Mitsotakis also referred to the success of the “Career Days” institution, which will continue throughout the country, although, as he pointed out, they were initially treated with suspicion. It encouraged businesses and social partners to participate even more in similar events throughout Greece.

The prime minister also referred to his personal experience abroad and his return to Greece. He acknowledged that in the crisis years there were many who sought their luck abroad, and stood in the wave of return nowadays.

“The issue is the balance,” he said, stressing that more last year more returned to our country than those who left. This, he said, justifies the government’s labor policy while continuing, underlining the tax incentives given to those Greeks who are returning home to work.

“Something is changing in Greece, our labor market policies attribute,” he said, and concluded, referring to the new challenges observed in the labor market.
