“We cannot tolerate an environment in which any student or professor may feel hostage to tramping and violence.”
Clear message to the administrations of university sent by the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakisduring his meeting with the rectors of the country’s higher education institutions.
The prime minister has announced that even the possibility of even the discount of rectors who do not meet their institutional obligations is being considered, with the aim of enhancing accountability and effective operation of HEIs.
“Non -negotiable prerequisite for everyone and everyone in their schools. Knowledge implies freedom and in turn the legitimacy. An environment in which no one will hesitate to formulate his positions, his views, to open a discussion with some who may disagree. This implies by its nature the freedom of expression. We all agree that we cannot tolerate an environment in which any student or teacher may feel hostage to trampoukism and violence. Legality is established by schools and society asks all of us obviously to apply the law. A non -negotiable mandate for the government, “Mr Mitsotakis said, and then stressed that:
“We will announce 10 points that complement the already bold legislative framework from 2019 and 2021. We will close any hole that does not connect rights with obligations and sanctions, all to do our job properly and responsibly. We will exist sanctions after we have been accountable.
I am waiting for you the security plan of your institutions. A student who is prosecuted should lose his status as a student for even 24 months. A Supreme Court will be appointed to accelerate the cases of violence. The damage will be burdened with the leaders and not the institutions. There will be penalties, they can reach and until the deduction from its role to those who do not meet their obligations. The minority cannot be the universities of the universities. Everyone has to take on the role they refer to, “the prime minister said.
