There is no question of removing the ENFIAthe prime minister clarified Kyriakos Mitsotakis At a press conference within the TIF today (07.09.2025).
Kyriakos Mitsotakis recalled the decision of ENFIA’s reduction in the first residence in villages and towns, clarifying that politics aims to intervene with a social and regional sign and not to horizontal measures that disrupt fiscal planning.
For VAT, he noted that targeted reductions in products and services, as well as family goods. As he said, a further generalized reduction would act as an indirect subsidy of intermediaries, without ensuring that the benefit would go to the end consumer. Therefore, priority is given to maintaining existing reductions where immediate benefit in the household basket is substantiated.
In fuel, the prime minister ruled out a horizontal tax cut, citing the very high budgetary cost. He said the available fiscal space is € 1.7 billion and should be distributed by efficiency and targeting criteria in order to prioritize the most vulnerable groups and not to undermine public finances. He also stressed that prices for fuel and oil are expected lower than last year, an element that – as he estimated – limits the need for horizontal tax interventions in the industry.
