In the initiative for the Greece-Cyprus Intergovernmental Summit, which he said is bearing fruit for the better coordination of the governments of the two countries, the Prime Minister mentioned Kyriakos Mitsotakisin the dialogue he had with him Nikos Christodoulidis whom he welcomed at Megaros Maximos on Tuesday morning.
“Beyond the close communication it is important to be able to better coordinate government work especially in view of the important moment for the Cyprus of taking over the presidency of the EU in 2026″ added the Greek Prime Minister.
From the side of President of the Republic of Cyprus he noted that “due to excellent cooperation, we have succeeded in strengthening our relations beyond strictly national issues. On behalf of the Cypriot side, I want to say that we have learned a lot about governance from Greece and I want to thank you for your cooperation. We make use of know-how that you take advantage of in Greece”.
Ahead of assuming the presidency of the EU Council in 50 days, Mr. Christodoulidis said that “we will work for the strategic autonomy of the EU. Greece and Cyprus have a role to play to strengthen the EU’s relations with the wider Middle East but at the same time with our own initiatives such as the meeting of the three energy ministers last week in Athens, to find points of convergence in the EU’s relations with the US”
The agenda of the 3rd Intergovernmental Greece-Cyprus
