Following the meeting they had in the morning at the Maximos Palace, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Nobel laureate, co -founder and chief executive of Google Deepmind, Demis Hassabisparticipated in an open discussion in Herod Atticain the context of Athens Innovation Summit 2025organized by Endeavor Greece.
The discussion was co -ordinated by Endeavor’s co -founder and CEO, Linda Rottenberg.
During his position, the prime minister pointed out three key points. First, he emphasized the importance of utilizing the potential of artificial intelligence in critical areas such as health, education and civil protection to enhance the efficiency of the state. Secondly, he emphasized the need for a “rigorous regulatory framework”, mainly to protect mental health and control the impact of social media.
The third point of his intervention was Europe’s position in the global technological landscape. Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the European Union should attract talents and strengthen start -ups to “break the US -China dipole”. Demis Hassabis also agreed on this, who said that “the debate cannot be limited to Silicon Valley and California”.
The prime minister, with humor, commented at the beginning of the event the spectacular turnout of the public, saying that Herodion was crowded “although he pointed out, the battle of Yiannis Antetokounbos and all of the members of the National Team” was expected to begin in 45 minutes.
In a decisive statement, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said:
“In Greece one of the first AI Factory is created,” adding that “artificial intelligence will affect all areas of the economy.”
Referring to the European context and innovation, he commented:
“Some argue that Europe is very good at regulating and legislating, not so good to innovate,” adding that the goal of EU leaders is to “dispel barriers between countries”, create a truly single market, and secure European funds so that the US startups do not leave.
Indeed, referring to the AI Factory created in the country, he noted:
“We have made good use of the European resources and the European Union initiatives that were intended to establish Factory, one of the first seven, is currently being created in Greece with a supercomputer, which is currently being built in Lavrio.”
The prime minister added that the government’s goal is to free access to solutions that will be developed through artificial intelligence, and praised the Greek startup ecosystem, saying that since 2001, when the first incubator was founded, to date, there is a business culture that pushes young people to do so.
He also pointed out that “artificial intelligence has extremely important transformative power” and will help Greece make the necessary leap forward. As he said:
‘We don’t just want to support our own ecosystem […] but also through artificial intelligence solutions. “
Finally, he referred to the use of AI in the public sector:
“First of all in the context of the government for greater efficiency, efficiency and finding fields such as health, education, civil protection for example […]»
and ended up:
“We are really and I am personally excited about this promising new initiative and for the future,” stating that expectations are high, both for AI and the perspective of the Greek business ecosystem.
