The Prime Minister’s speech at the Rome Conference on Ukrainian rebuilding
During today’s speech at the Rome Conference on Ukrainian rebuilding, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis He stressed, inter alia, that “Ukraine’s brave resistance, which lasts four years, is not only a struggle for national sovereignty, but also for democracy, dignity and freedom.”
“United, to support Ukraine’s recovery, we confirm a fundamental belief: that resilience, when reinforced by solidarity, paves the way for renewal,” the prime minister added.
Mr Mitsotakis also emphasized that “Greece is steadily standing on the side of the people of Ukraine” and that “our message is clear and consistent, from the beginning of this horrible war: the border cannot change with violence and aggression should never be rewarded.”
According to the prime minister, “we must increase our collective pressure on Russia, with the aim of securing a fair truce and, ultimately, a fair and enduring peace, a peace that respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity and its European future.”
Mr Mitsotakis then stressed that Ukraine needs a long -term reconstruction strategy that reflects the extent of the disaster and the size of the sacrifices made by the Ukrainian people.
According to the prime minister, “the four areas in which it is currently focused on businesses, human resources, regional recovery and integration into the EU are interconnected pillars of this success” and “progress in each of them requires both Ukraine and Ukraine.”
In his speech in Rome, Mr Mitsotakis added that Ukraine has shown remarkable macroeconomic resilience and that it has adapted to the demanding conditions of the EU accession process, the EIA reported.
“At European level, our support for Ukraine is steadfast. The Ukraine Aid Fund remains a vital tool for the reconstruction effort and must be supported with the necessary resources and the necessary political will.
However, public funding alone is not enough. We must fully integrate the private sector into this reconstruction effort. This means that we need to create the right conditions: to mitigate the dangers, to provide guarantees, to build strong and transparent institutions that investors can trust, “Kyriakos Mitsotakis told Rome.
The prime minister explained that “Greece is particularly focused on southern Ukraine and especially on Odessa, a city with which it has deep historical relations and is a hub of strategic importance in the Black Sea” and that our country is determined to support its recovery and future. “We consider southern Ukraine as a vital link between the Black Sea, Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean,” he said.
“As I recently emphasized from Odessa, we envision a strategic connectivity corridor between the Greek port of Alexandroupolis and the city of Odessa, which will include energy, transport and trade, a project that will contribute to both the recovery of Ukraine and the Economic Economics.”
He pointed out that together with our partners in the region, we are already contributing to the promotion of Ukraine’s energy security through the vital vertical corridor, a critical infrastructure project with significant possibilities.
“The Greek companies today represented in Rome are at the forefront, exploring partnerships in key areas: from clean and green energy to infrastructure, health services, supply chains, marine transport and defense. In all of this, our goal is clear: to contribute substantially to the rapid and tangible rebuilding of a free, dominant and democratic Ukraine, as it did in our countries after the war. My country was destroyed not only by World War II, but also by a civil war, and we were able to rebuild with significant American help at that time. And I exclude the comments I heard from the US spokesman that Europe and the United States will stand in hand not only in ensuring vital peace but also in building a free and prosperous Ukraine, “Mr Mitsotakis concluded.
