Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ post:
Democracy today celebrates the victory of freedom over oppression. The prevalence of parliamentaryism at the expense of authoritarianism. And the choice of Europe instead of immersive introversion. Fifty -one years since Konstantinos Karamanlis marked them, these choices remain the light lighthouses of our national journey.
We continue to defend justice and equality for everyone, staying alert. Because democracy should never be taken for granted. Especially in a juncture in which its enemies use the most sneaky weapons: from distortion of truth and toxic misinformation of limbs to tooling problems of our time such as migration.
There is no other response to the threats of the country’s defense and diplomatic power. While in the internal challenges we oppose the unity of society. Our precious internal stability. And the preservation of Greece in the path of progress and prosperity that has chosen in recent years. Overcoming pathogens, mistakes and failures.
So we are celebrating this July 24, 1974, honoring those who resisted yesterday’s dictatorship. Rejecting today’s populism. And turning our eyes and all our strengths towards a better tomorrow. Democracy, after all, proceeds only when citizens who appreciate its values refuse to live without them. That’s why they protect it daily.
