The prime minister has given his speech at the EPP Conference on Greece’s Transfiguration for the last ten years thanks to reforms
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke at the conference of the European People’s Party on Tuesday in Valencia, Spain, leaving Greece, giving Greece as an example of reforms as an example of reforms.
“It is a great privilege to address you today, not only as prime minister of Greece, but also as a warm supporter of Europe, a proud member of the most successful wider political formation and political fate in Europe,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed during his speech at the European Congress.
He went on to say, “I am talking about the EPP of course and as the predecessors have said, we have gathered here in Valencia in times of uncertainty and discontinuity and I think that during these times the stability of the European People’s Party becomes extremely important. Of course, the same is true of the party whose honor is to lead. The New Democracy, of course, is a pillar of political stability and a producer of economic prosperity for my own country, for Greece. “
As the prime minister said, “I believe that we should all be proud of everything we have done in recent years. We must be proud of the fact that we have strengthened our presence in the European Council. We must be proud of the fact that we have re -elected Ursula as the head of the committee. We have to be proud of our own agenda and of course the responsibility comes with success. We are now at a crossroads of tectonic, geopolitical and economic re -lines. Citizens expect us to show leadership in times of times. “
Mr Mitsotakis stressed that Europe should no longer be a new rules factory and start being a development laboratory. “Reforms really bring prosperity. Take the example of my own country, Greece. We have already managed a great transformation. We were the crisis of the crisis ten years ago and now we are a country that is among the fastest growing economies in Europe, ”he said.
Elsewhere in his speech he emphasized “always as Greece he was a staunch supporter of Europe’s strategic autonomy within NATO. We have done it for years. Greece spends more than 2% of its GDP on defense, even during the downturn in the debt crisis. We are now spending more than 3% of our GDP in defense. We are committed to 25 billion euros in the coming years to apply the most drastic transformation to the history of our Armed Forces. And of course we welcome the Commission’s initiatives to create additional fiscal space. “
Mr Mitsotakis also stressed that “my third very short observation is that while we are strengthening our defense, we must at the same time seize the opportunity in our changing world. A large geopolitical alignment takes place, new forces emerge. The global supply chains are changing, and this creates a terrible opportunity so that Europe can engage with the world south, for new trade agreements, to form corporate relations with players who appreciate access to markets, but at the same time appreciate our own rules and recognizes our own rules.
India, for example, is a big player, key player and I welcome the Ursula’s initiative, who visited the College of Commissioners, the capital of India, to mark the importance of this important corporate relationship we build. And Greece, thanks to its geostrategic position, is the India gateway to the EU. We are ready to implement projects associated with India, the Middle East, this economic corridor, transformer projects that can change worldwide trade routes and seize a geopolitical opportunity. “
In closing, he said, among other things, “A few words about our relationships with our friend on the other side of the Atlantic. I am a staunch supporter and I believe that ties between America and Europe are very important and will not break. “
