THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis by posting to X, sent congratulations to the Friedrich Mertz, He became the tenth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and will lead the cooperation government between the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party.

Friedrich Mertz was elected Chancellor in the second vote of the Bundestag
Friedrich Mertz became the tenth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and will lead the cooperation government between the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD). In the second vote in the federal parliament, Mr Mertz garnered 325 votes, and required 316 of 630 MPs. A total of 618 MPs voted, 289 voted against the candidate and there was one abstention.
In the first vote, earlier today, it had secured only 310 votes, when the government’s parties have 328 seats. The evolution, unprecedented in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, has caused a serious political crisis and was commented on as a “bomb” by German media.
Friedrich Mertz will go to the Presidential Palace Bellevue to meet with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and to receive his appointment. He will then return to the Bundestag to swear. Later tonight, the delivery -receipt ceremony will take place in the Chancellor, between the outgoing Chancellor Olf Saltz and his successor.
