With PASOK and SYRIZA decision vote against the bill on Letter vote started his introductory placement the Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Although the main subject of Ministerial council is the marriage of the homosexual couples.
Indeed, the prime minister stressed that if the bill was rejected, he would return to Parliament again in the future.
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Introductory I would like to make a quick comment on what is happening in the House on the issue of letter vote. It is a very important reform, which primarily facilitates Greeks outside the European elections, without travel, without expenses, wherever they reside. “
“I believe it is also an important consent opportunity, in which, for reasons that I find it difficult to understand both PASOK and SYRIZA turn their backs on as it seems, voting against the bill. Although they had initially agreed on it, and I sincerely wonder with both the old man and the dust that rose around this issue. “
“I cannot understand why the opposition is rejecting a draft law, on the occasion of an amendment tabled at the beginning of the discussion and which improves the bill. And how can we agree with the letter voting in the European elections and not agree with the letter to the National? That is, does the voice of citizens have a different meaning in the two ballots? “

“And in any case there is a very simple way to overcome any objection to this issue: let them vote in the bill and vote against the amendment.”
“However, today, regardless of developments, at the initiative of this government there is a very important, historic step to establish the letter vote, first of all in the European elections.”
“And be sure and confident that sooner or later the second step will take place. This amendment, if rejected today, will come back, and will come back after the European elections. “
“And then it will really seem who wants to finally be allowed for our fellow citizens who live abroad to vote by letter vote and who finds excuses and pretexts. Citizens see us, listen to us and fortunately they can judge and compare. “
Mitsotakis for Davos and Birth Allowance
At the same time, the prime minister also referred to the contacts he had in Davos.
“I am now passing on the agenda of today’s cabinet, which again focuses on our permanent government goal, which is none other than improving everyday life, with reforms that modernize the country as a whole, increasingly converging with Europe.”
“It’s something to tell you that it is recognized internationally, as I have recently found in Davos. A common conclusion was also there that Greece is now magnetized instead of being scared and the interest in the course of our economy has been very important. “
“And in the meetings I did with all the investors, it is clear that the investment level is already acting as an additional incentive to operate in the country. A development that will bring even more investments, more well -paid jobs and of course bring growth, which in turn brings more public revenue to support income and for a more targeted and effective social policy. “
“I mention an example only: Two days ago, the two relevant ministers, Mr Hatzidakis and Ms Zacharakis, announced the permanent increase in the birth allowance of 2,000 euros to 2,400, to 3,500 euros depending on the children of each family.”
“The measure is about 75,000 new births a year – we would like it and hope to be more – thus reinforcing equal families across the country. And I even pay particular attention to it will be retroactive from January 1, 2023. It will also include those families who have had a child last year and we are well aware that they are already burdened by the increased cost of infants. “
Mitsotakis for a court map
I believe that this initiative proves that the good course of our economy, as the Minister said, allows us to combine embankments against precision with our overall family policy. “
“It is a multifaceted, multilevel strategy, which will soon be integrated into a single demographic strategy.”
“But the progress of an economy and the prosperity of citizens of a society are not measured exclusively in income terms, they are not measured exclusively by macroeconomic indicators.”
“Our vision is to grow and increase the available income with more freedom, more justice, more equality, more security. By the constant deepening of democracy that ultimately reduces discrimination and reduces inequalities. “
“Otherwise what does the GDP of the country are growing, without eventually disseminating to all citizens, without being accompanied by individual rights and freedoms, without any Greek and every Greek to live freely as European citizens in our homeland, instead of staying in any other country?”
“Our country, I want to remind,” belongs politically, defensive, economically, culturally in the West, “as the founder of our lineup, Constantine Karamanlis, emphasized. And our values are the womb of modern Western culture. “
“That is why our vision is for Greece to belong to those states that attribute the same importance not only to economic or defense, but also to individual freedoms, citizens’ rights and of course the rule of law.”
“And since we are talking about the rule of law, to say that the rule of law is not understood without the quick administration of justice. And with the brave reform of the judicial charter that will soon be recommended by the responsible minister, with the integration of the Courts of First Instance and the Court of First Instance, we complete a reform that has been pending for 100 years and which Eleftherios Venizelos had first spoken for. “
“Our goal is to overcome the internal weaknesses of the system and the judicial decisions to be issued much faster. We do not lag behind the number of judges over the rest of Europe, but here the cases requires four times as much, five times the time. Sometimes four, five, seven, eight, ten years. Such delays, however, are practically equivalent to negativity. “
“Therefore, the changes suggested by the competent ministry are critical. They will be implemented with the technical assistance of the World Bank and with secured resources from the Recovery Fund and, as you will hear and then, a detailed job has been done by the ministry team. “
“It is a very important reform, which we all need to support with very persuasion.”
Mitsotakis for homosexual couples
Finally, the Minister of State will present the arrangement for Equality in political marriage. It is an arrangement that, overturning the usual time and a series of things, we have already discussed extensively with our Members. It is an important step to seek the equality of all citizens, as I have identified it at the beginning.
Most importantly, however, it is sought to protect the children of homosexual parents who already exist. These children must have the same rights as all other children.
I would like to remind you that we are talking about something that is already in place in 36 countries, in five continents, without anywhere seem to have hurt social cohesion and government harmony. And I also want to express my satisfaction that all this time this reform has been discussed soberly and without extremes in Greek society.
It was also discussed within the parties and I am very pleased because our lineup has also gained this process of mature consultation, instead of the leveling measure of party discipline.
In this dialogue all the views were heard and I respect all views. The views of tradition, evolution, and our own side have been heard that I believe that integrates tradition into evolution.
But there were also voices that had not been heard to date, especially the homosexual parents who could finally sleep quietly at night, free of fear that if something happens to them, their child will not end up with the other parent but will be found in an institution.
And it is also very important that in the context of this public dialogue, I believe in detail what the bill does not do: it does not alter the current context of surrogate pregnancy, does not substantially extend it to homosexual couples and excludes the characterizations of “parent 1” and “parent 2”. Because – I want to emphasize – Greece will not become a workshop of politicians that are only implemented in a few countries around the world.
In short, the new regulation adds rights to some, but without deducting any rights from many. It is something that requires, after all, the sensitivity of our democracy, in which there are no citizens of two categories, and there is certainly no “children of a lower God”.
Mitsotakis for a church decision
So one issue is not offered, I will say it again, for divisive challenges and certainly not offered for excesses. And so I also welcome the positions of the Church, which I fully respect. After all, this government has given many practical solutions to the needs of the clergy that have been pending for decades.
However, here I want to be clear: We are referring to state choices. Not in theological beliefs. And in the past, after all, with the Church we had different perspectives on political marriage, the burning of the dead, on the issue of identities.
Life, however, has shown that these changes were mature. They didn’t even hurt society, they didn’t even hurt the cooperation of the State and the Church, and I am sure that it will happen now.
I close, noting that as is the case with the daily life of society, so our daily arrangement is not one -way. And right, because each issue has its own special weight, its own range among the many others that concern citizens. And today we have a lot to discuss. So we can start our meeting.
