Mission visit of the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund in the Biotechnology project of DEMO in Ag. Wreath


His mission Recovery and Resilience Fund of the European Commission was welcomed by DEMO in the Biotechnology Research Center under construction in Ag. Stefano of Attica.

The visit to DEMO was attended by a delegation of EU officials, led by the TAA’s Lead Negotiators for Greece, Luc Tholoniat, Director General of Economic Affairs-DGECFIN and Johaness Luebking, Director of the EU Task Force – SG RECOVER. On the Greek side, a team of the Special Coordination Service of the Recovery Fund participated, led by the Governor, Mr. Oresti Kavalaki and the General Secretary of Coordination Mrs. Evi Dramalioti.

The Governor of the Recovery Fund Mr. Orestis Kavalakis said: “Today we had the opportunity together with European Commission officials to see a significant private productive investment in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, supported by the Recovery Fund. It is a confirmation of the Fund’s contribution to the development of innovative investments that create highly specialized jobs and strengthen the Greek economy”.

The General Secretary of Coordination Ms. Evi Dramalioti pointed out “The DEMO ABEE pharmaceutical industry is an excellent example of fully utilizing the tools of the Recovery and Resilience Fund, both through the financing of research and development costs, and through the loan facility. The company’s investments are aimed, among other things, at creating, for the first time in Greece, an incubator for the bioproduction of medicines, and at attracting high-quality research potential from abroad.”

The CEO of DEMO ABEE Mr. Dimitris Demos he emphasized: “We were happy to welcome the executives of the TAA of the EU to the Biotechnology research center under construction. The iconic building, which is currently under completion, is being implemented with the support of the Recovery and Resilience Fund and is a landmark project for Greece, as it establishes DEMO as a pioneer company in R&D and production of raw and final materials drugs of biological origin. We had the opportunity to take our visitors on a tour of the research laboratories and production areas and highlight the importance of our activity in the industry, both for the patient and for the country in general.”

DEMO’s Biotechnology project is part of the largest investment plan in the sector, and envisages the creation of a modern Biotechnology research center in Ag. Stefano Attica, creation of a Bio-Academy in Kryoneri, Attica as well as facilities of a semi-industrial/pilot scale production unit for laboratory pilot batches of finished organic products.

The investment is implemented with the loan support of the Recovery Fund and is supported within the framework of the action “Reform of the clawback system and offsetting it with research and investment costs”, with the financing of the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
