Responsibilities in Athens are throwing Turkish media for the postponement of the meeting By Kyriakos Mitsotakis with Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York.
Specifically, according to Milliyet, the Greek side rushed to announce the meeting prematurely rather than “together” as the two sides had agreed. It is noted, however, that the date of the meeting of the two leaders had been leaked since the previous Thursday, which brings the Ankara reaction to several days delay.
As the Turkish newspaper reports, the initiative for a new meeting between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kyriakos Mitsotakis started from Athens. Turkish president’s leader on foreign policy and security president Akif Tsagati Kilits discussed the matter with his Greek counterpart last week.
According to the same sources, due to President Erdogan’s highly loaded program, the two sides agreed to take place in a later time and to issue a joint announcement after its completion. However, the Greek side made an early announcement of the appointment, which, according to Ankara, was a violation of the informal agreement. This resulted in the Turkish Presidency calling for the postponement of today’s meeting, always according to Milliyet.
It is recalled that earlier on Tuesday’s Athens government sources informed the postponement of the meeting due to the Turkish president’s participation in the meeting of the leaders of Arab and Muslim countries organized by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday in New York. As the same sources informed, the Turkish side argued that President Erdogan would be delayed at the meeting under Trump due to an appointment with the prime minister and demanded a postponement for the next few days.
The appointment was scheduled for today at 9pm at the so -called “House of Turkey” in New York as the first Greek -Turkish summary after last September.
