Michalis Chrysochoidis: Strengthening Local Police in Corinth – four axes for the next day

Her Corinthia Recently visited the Minister of Citizen Protection, Mr. Michalis Chrysochoidismarking a new era for local policing. During a wide meeting with Greek police officials, significant initiatives were announced to upgrade the security of residents and more effectively dealing with crime.

The Minister’s announcements move on four main axes:

  1. Upgrading Crime Prosecution: Founded in Corinth or Prosecution and Criminal Prosecution Divisionreplacing the existing section. This upgrade, coupled with staff reinforcement, aims at a more organized and dynamic response to crime and faster to delineate serious cases.
  2. Enhancement of OPECs: The Crime Prevention and Repression Teams (OPEC)which number 32 people in Corinth, are completely reorganized. The aim is to have their permanent and uninterrupted presence in every two municipalities, with particular emphasis on areas and settlements with increased needs. Mr. Chrysochoidis stressed that the purpose is to “exterminate” the criminal networks in the region, in close cooperation with the new Directorate of Prosecution and Delineation, but also with its critical subscription Organized Crime Address (AIO)of “Greek FBI”, as typically mentioned.
  3. Extension of DIAS Group: A new DIAS team in West Corinthia. This move will allow the existing DIAS team of the city of Corinth to focus on urban areas, while the new group will immediately and effectively cover the settlements and cities of Western Corinth, such as Kiato and Xylokastro.
  4. Border Guard Recruits: Are expected 50 additional border guards recruitment for the Corinthian (PROPHA) Pre -Department of Detention Center (PROPA). The new border guards, in collaboration with the already serving, will manage the detainees by strictly observing the rules of security, dignity and human rights. These recruitments are expected to be completed by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

Cooperation message

The minister emphasized that the issue of law and order is a fundamental priority of the government and the rule of law. He pledged that this priority would be transformed into specific actions and businesses, with the aim of further improving the effectiveness of police forces. Particular emphasis was placed on the decisive role of Organized Crime Management Addressin the presence of the Commander and its Deputy Commander, Lieutenant General Fotis Ditsis and Brigadier Spyros Tsardakas respectively, who participated in the meetings.

Mr. Chrysochoidis congratulated the head of local services for their performance, especially in its areas social policingsuch as domestic violence and minors’ violence, as well as traffic issues. Indicatively, the Bureau of Domestic Violence in Corinth managed 216 cases with 128 arrests in the first half of 2025, recording an increase of about 10% compared to the corresponding period of 2024. Although a slight reduction in traffic has been reduced, the minister emphasized the need for intensification of controls and prioritization. In addition, he referred to the reduction of stoning in trains, theft and drug cases, attributing these positive results to the increased police presence.
