Twelve people lost their lives and eight others were injured in a car accident accident In the state of Chihuahua, in the northern Mexicoas the local authorities announced yesterday Wednesday (23.04.2025).
The accident was caused by two SUV vehicles, which transported many passengers on Tuesday night, between Guatsotsi and Yokivo of Mexico, the State Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement released.
“The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident abandoned the place of the collision,” the same source said earlier. The prosecutor’s office clarified that many of the injured were taken to various state hospitals.
The collision left 12 dead, including an infant and a child, and 7 more injured on a highway in Sierra Taramara.
The Attorney General’s office in the northern state of Chihuahua said in a statement that the accident occurred on Tuesday on a highway connecting the Guachochi and Yoquivo communities – inhabited by members of the RarĂ¡muri National Team – where one truck clashed with another.
Eleven members of the RarĂ¡muri national team died at the scene of the accident, including a three -month -old baby and a four -year -old child, and another died during his transfer to a health center, the prosecutor’s office said.
A group of armed people arrived at the scene and received one of the vehicles involved in the accident as well as the driver, the public ministry said.
Traffic accidents have multiplied in Mexico in recent years. The main reasons are the poor state of vehicles and roads, fatigue or carelessness of drivers, the authorities explain.
In one of the most tragic such events this year, a truck collided with a bus, killing 38 people on February 8 in the state of Campcece.
