Metron Analysis poll: Small increase for ND and PASOK – Accuracy remains a “thorn” – What citizens say about Tsipras – Samara

Her new poll Metron Analysis for Mega records small but characteristic changes in the political scene, as the decrease in undecideds seems to strengthen the New Republic and the PASOK. At the same time, social discontent remains strong: 69% of citizens still believe that the country is moving in the wrong direction, showing that the government’s efforts to reverse the climate have not worked.

The majority declares a deterioration compared to last year, several say it remains the same, while only 15% report an improvement – a percentage in line with corresponding findings of previous Metron Analysis measurements. Accuracy (49%) emerges as the top problem once again, followed by the general economic situation and the crisis of institutions. The increase in the percentage of those who consider corruption to be a major issue is also noteworthy.

In the part of voting intention, New Republic maintains first place with 22.6% and strengthens its lead. PASOK rises to 10.4%, confirming its upward trajectory. Deep social discontent persists

Citizens still overwhelmingly (69%) believe that things are going in the wrong direction, indicating that government efforts to reverse this sentiment have failed.

Accordingly, most citizens in comparison state in the poll that their own situation has worsened compared to a year ago, several argue that it is the same, and only 15% state an improvement, which also corresponds to the results of previous surveys by Metron Analysis.

The main problem is accuracy

In terms of problems facing citizens, the Metron Analysis poll shows that accuracy remains the top problem, cited by 49% of respondents, followed by the economy, which cites the same range of problems, while the crisis of institutions remains high. It is interesting that the percentage of citizens who cite corruption as a problem also increases.

The negative climate in society is also reflected in the economic confidence index, which remains negative, with the most negative climate being among farmers, which also reflects the increased insecurity of the peasantry for the future at a time when subsidies seem to be at risk.

The “score” that the government receives from citizens in almost all areas of its activity is particularly negative. According to the poll, 79% negative opinions on the issues of economy and accuracy, despite the announcements at the TIF, 73% negative rating in relation to the issues of democracy and institutions, 70% in relation to the issues of everyday life and security. Only in relation to geopolitical issues, the government sees negative opinions falling to 49% and mainly positive opinions rising to 34%.

The negative evaluation is not limited to the government, but also to the prime minister himself, who has a 70% negative evaluation and only 26% positive, figures also relatively unchanged in the latest surveys.

Negative evaluation of the official opposition as well

As in previous surveys by Metron Analysis, this poll also shows the seemingly paradoxical fact that society is even more dissatisfied with the performance of the main opposition. Here the negative opinions reach 81% and the positive only 11%.

This negative evaluation of the official opposition is also reflected in the negative evaluation of the presence of Nikos Androulakis, albeit with a slight improvement compared to the previous survey.

60% want political change

Regarding the question of “political stability or political change”, 60% of citizens are in favor of changing political affiliations and 39% are in favor of stability.

On the related question regarding the holding of early elections or the exhaustion of the four-year term by the government, the percentage in favor of early elections is marginally higher, by just one point.

How do citizens assess the potential impact of a party under Alexis Tsipras

37% of citizens believe that the establishment of a party under Alexis Tsipras would be positive for our political system, with 52% having a negative opinion. Responses are polarized based on ideological self-positioning. Positive opinions among center-left and left-wing voters and negative among center-right and right-wing voters.

Regarding the possibility of supporting a party under Alexis Tsipras. The survey shows that 10% consider it very likely to vote for it and 13% very likely, while 62% consider this possibility unlikely. This shows that at the moment a party that has not announced, nor formulated programmatic positions, has a cumulative starting point of around 23% and a “hard core” at 10%, i.e. a starting point rather better than that of the current left-of-centre opposition parties.

As for the political origin of the potential voters of a party under Alexis Tsipras, they mainly come from SYRIZA, Pleussi Eleftherias, PASOK and the undecided vote.

The impact of a possible “Samara Party”

Regarding the possibility of a party led by Antonis Samaras, 5% say that they are very likely to vote for it and 11% that it is quite likely, while 64% that it is unlikely. This means that the former prime minister has a “hard core” of potential electoral support that exceeds the 3% threshold and a potential influence of 16%.

“No one” remains a more suitable prime minister

In the question of who the citizens consider the most suitable prime minister, a question different from simple popularity, as here the image of the ability to govern and not just positive opinion is measured, “No one” remains the strongest answer and a clear symptom of a legitimacy crisis, with 34%, followed by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with 26%. Alexis Tsipras gets 6% but we have to note that here we are dealing with spontaneous responses from people who basically think about the current landscape of “political leaders”.
