Signed, between the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum and the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen institutional cooperation in prevention and response to gender domestic violencewith particular emphasis on women and girls of the refugee and migrant population.
The Memorandum was signed by the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum Sevi Voloudaki and Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family responsible for equality & human rights and Elena Rapti.
The Memorandum provides, among other things:
● Establishment of a national working group for gender -based violence,
● updating referral protocols in support structures,
● Interconnection of telephone lines 15107 and 15900 to support vulnerable victims,
● The possible extension of the “Panic Button” application and to third -country nationals,
● The first -line staff training,
● Mapping available services across the country,
● The development of information material and
● Rape crisis centers for victims of sexual violence.
The Memorandum is part of the government’s strategy to enhance social cohesion, protect human rights and combat all forms of violence.
The Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum, Sevi Voloudakis, said:
“Protection of the most vulnerable is a matter of culture and responsibility. In today’s Memorandum we unite forces to ensure that no victim of gender or domestic violence will remain helpless, regardless of origin or legal status. “
For her part, the Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Elena Rapti stressed: “The fight against gender and domestic violence requires cooperation, consistency and commitment. With today’s agreement we take an essential step towards equality and human rights protection, ensuring that every woman, every girl, regardless of nationality, has access to support and security. “
