A new cooperation in the field of immigration begins between Greece and Hungary. The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Budapest, at the initiative of Hungary, which is seeking Greek know -how for the implementation of the new Pact for immigration and asylumwhich is expected to enter into force in June 2026.
The Ministry of Immigration and Asylum represented by the Secretary General of Migration Policy, Manos Logothetis and the asylum service commander, Marios Kaleas.
According to a statement from the Greek Ministry, the Hungarian authorities are interested in familiarizing their services with their services New border procedureswhich are expected to be implemented in June 2026 under the Pact.
It is recalled that after the Pact’s vote on May 14, 2024, all Member States must comply and adjust the reception and asylum procedures by adopting one homogenized operating model In terms of examining international protection requests, hospitality specifications and intensification of returns for those who are not asylum.
After the Western Balkans, Moldova, Cyprus, Bulgaria and in the past, Great Britain, in turn, Hungary is looking for experiences from the best practices in our country, recognizing the progress that has been in Greece in Greece over the years.
At the same time, the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum published the updated data on unaccompanied minors hosted in structures in Greece.
According to the ministry, the estimated number of unaccompanied minors amounts to 1,722, of which:
- 92% are boys
- 8% girls
- 13% is younger than 15 years
Of these, 1,233 unaccompanied minors (AA) are located in hospitality centers, 184 AA. In semi -autonomous living apartments, 145 A.A. In Emergency Hospitality Structures, 154 A.A. In Reception and Identification Centers & Closed Controlled Structures and 6 AA In controlled asylum seekers.
Regarding hosting capacity: 1,745 seats are in hosting structures (hosting centers/semi -autonomous living apartments) and 156 seats in urgent hospitality structures.
