Meeting of the Democracy Movement with the Athens -Suburbs and Surroundings Association

Meeting was held today (29/4) at the headquarters of Movement of democracy Among the political leadership of the party and its representatives Association of Bakers of Athens – Suburbs and Surroundingsfocusing on the critical problems facing the bakery industry.

The meeting took place In the presence of the President of the Democracy Movement, Stefanos Kasselakiswho carefully heard the demands of the union and highlighted the importance of supporting the bakeries as important for social cohesion and strengthening Greek production.

On the part of the Democracy Movement also participated by Pella MP, Theodora Tzakri and the MP of Thessaloniki and a spokesman for the press, Michalis Hourdakis.

The basic requests of the union include:

  1. Application of Law 3526/2007

The universal application of the law in the Greek territory in regard to the name “bakery” and “baker” was requested to eliminate unfair competition, to protect the consumer from misleading practices and to ensure the survival of the real ovens.

  1. Energy justice and independence

Bakers suggest the application Pilot Program of Energy Autonomyincluding:

  • Installation of photovoltaic systems with storage and smart energy management.
  • Grant 80% of investment through state mechanism.
  • Participation of 30 bakeries in the initial stage.
  • Depreciation within 3–5 years and reduced energy costs of up to 80%.

The program is aimed at shielding of the industry From energy crises, the strengthening of the local economy and the cultural heritage of the Greek bakery, and is linked to the EU goals. For energy democracy and a fair transition.

  1. Electricity pricing

Determination of a single price of 0.08 €/kWh for craft bakeries in order to ensure business viability and avoid further padlocks.

  1. Reform

The Association has expressed concern about imputed taxation which – as it was emphasized – not only does not restore tax justice, but intensifies pressure on small and medium -sized enterprises, making their survival difficult.

The President of the Democracy Movement, Stefanos Kasselakishe expressed his surprise for the fact that ovens, traditional businesses that sell the most basic good, bread, are threatened with extinction because of the government’s politicians, according to the Pissaridis plan that is faithfully implemented by the government, which leads to mathematical precision. Emphasized that the Support for the Greek bakery is a priority of the Republic Movement and is imperative as nutritional self -sufficiency and social cohesion are ensured.

The president pledged that the MPs of the Democracy Movement would immediately bring the issues of the industry to the House, and it was decided that an online debate would soon be organized where the chronic problems of the bakers would be discussed.
