The review of the security framework at universities He will be examined at a meeting scheduled for this morning at the Maximus Mansion under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The meeting will be attended by Minister of Education Sofia Zacharakis, the Deputy Minister of Education in Higher Education Nikos Papaioannou, and the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, while the main issue is to strengthen the measures of Prevention and management of cases of violence.
It is noteworthy that government officials recognize that the law of 2021, which provides for a security plan from HEIs to the Ministry of Education, has remained largely inactive, while government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said openly that the university was not required.
They point out that in the issue of addressing violence and crime in Greek universities, the government has made significant steps, since since 2019 the asylum was abolished, and for the first time, after so many years, there is no active occupation at the country’s university institution.
They, however, focus on security protocols, which are – as they point out – urgent need to acquire universities, with the responsibility of the Rector’s authorities. In this context, they note that it is clear to the relevant ministries that acquiring security plans from university institutions will be an absolute priority in the near future.
“We will do what we need based on the best international practices,” the government said.
Measures being studied
Among other measures considering the government is to strengthen the storage services within the institutions, as well as the expansion of the use of security cameras.
If it is deemed necessary to allocate additional resources, the government is willing to consider reinforcing the relevant funds.
At the same time, the activation of disciplinary action is discussed for both students involved in attacks and institutions that fail to apply the law.
It left open the possibility of deleting students involved in cruisers, and it is not excluded that the connection of state funding is noted by fulfilling the obligations of HEIs in terms of security.
